The unique resource I'm using is the RTA web page where I can watch the cameras... but with limited coverage.

Now, the question: what about Berowra / Cowan ? how long is the queue at the Pacific Hwy on ramp to the F3 Fwy ? It seems to be a looong queue from 06:00 to 09:00 but, how long ? (it can't be seen in the camera)

    Thank you !
I travel the F3 daily & the traffic most days banks back from Wahroonga to the Mt Colah on ramp. It can take around 15 mins to get through this section at around 6.30am.
However, if you're there before 6.15, it flows a lot better!

As Barney said, Friday afternoons are a nightmare. You are better leaving early or later than usual.

It will need some weeks to get the 457 visa, in the meantime I'm converting the Defender from LHD to RHD (I have been offered a 40 ft container as part of the relocation package!)
Now I won't tell you about the bushfires we fought around Gosford in January 1994...suffice to say that all up in that emergency which was in other areas beside Gosford there were 22000 firefighters in the field from all states of Australia. Greenery and such is a nice look but look out when mother nature gets the ****s.

Depends on what time you leave home Kieth, but I agree with you ... what with all the road works still going on, it can be just as bad. By the way, we live in Lithgow also.

    Hi,

I really appreciate all the advices/hints about how to deal with traffic/train. It is supposed that the job hours will be flexibe... but you do not know it well until you get there and get used to the job/project/people.

At the beginning the company pays the rental, so maybe I will stay close to the office until I get used to the country, and start looking for a nice place.

Well, first of all, I had to look in the Wikipedia to know who was Mr. Skase and why he moved to Majorca Island...

Regarding your question, it needs several hours to reply. But summarizing, the main differences are:
    - Australian people: when someone approaches you in Spain he/she is trying to get something from you, allways
    - Australian landscapes: it is becoming more and more difficult to enjoy the countryside in Spain, there is even a ban for cars out of sealed roads if you do not own the land or are a farmer in the territory where I live, something like the ACT, due to environmental lobby;
    - Australian 4x4 and campers: It is a nightmare to deal with the spanish MOT if you changed a single rivet in the defender. Forget about building your own camper, or your own trailer, or installing a snorkel by your own. Everything must be type approval, there must be a report from an engineer, it must be installed by authorized firm (even if you change your tyres for a bigger ones you must show a proof that someone qualified put the wheels in the hubs!!!)
    - Australian housing: Madrid is becoming blooooody expensive, even for an aparment. Forget about a house with a backyard to fix the landy or install the amateur radio antennas.

The list is much longer, but I think you get the point. I move to Oz in the pursuit of a life, leaving a living in Europe, what is what we all have here.

Now I understand the FFR username!
Are you interested in military radio or only amateur equipment and will you be bringing lots of it over?

The cost of shipping the currently being disposed of British Clansman equipment is often more than the cost of the items in the first place.

There is an interesting Radio museum at Kurrajong in the lower Blue Mountains, west of Penrith. http://www.vk2bv.org/museum/

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I work with Mil Comms and EW equipment; I'm really fortunate about it, as I feel it as a hobby rather than as a job

Yes, I will bring (I will try to bring, as we are preparing the visa documents) some radios (FT857, FT817, FT7800, IC208 and minor stuff) as well as a couple of radio direction finders for V/UHF. I'm not very active in amateur radio because there are plenty of constraints about amateur antennas in the district where I am living. I expect to return to the hobby there in VK2 !

Really excited about 6m and 10m NSW amateur radio repeaters, we don't have any in Spain.

Maybe you should check which way the traffic flows heaviest near your workplace in the morning and afternoon and live in the opposite direction.

Thats the beauty of living in Newcastle and visiting Sydney, youre always going against the traffic on long weekends and school holidays.

The Central Coast to Sydney commute will slowly grind you down, find somewhere close by and save the money you would have spent on petrol and put it towards your accommodation, there are heaps of townhouses in the area because of the uni ie Marsfield.

    James
