Yes Slunnie, the future is very bad, CHINA is planning to invest $US1 trillion ($944 billion) of its massive cash reserves overseas in the next five to 10 years, with its eye firmly on Australia as it looks for greater security of investment.

There is no way the demand for steel (or most metals) will slow due to the carbon tax. [However it may sway the balance in terms of choice of metal for an application]

IRC steel is 2-3 tonnes CO2 per tonne of steel. Aluminium is the biggie among common metals - 7-10 tons per tonne of ally.

The prices of series 2 and 3 body shells may rise

I actually dont think a carbon tax will slow demand for anything particuarly energy (elecrical anyway) but over time it may change the way it is generated, but It will be a long term thing more than ten years (at least) as that is how long it will take to put other generating capacity in place. The other big problem is that the only way to generate base power at the moment is nuke if you discount any form of coal or gas fired plants even nuke is 10 to 15 years away depending on any court cases to stop it.
Its fine to say be more energy efficent but we have over the last 3 years cut our usage buy about 40% according to our bills but the bills still go up. Many low income people are at the end of their rope now a fellow in NSW was taken to hospital last week for hypothermia he wouldnt turn his heater on there are many more close to that and we havnt started with the carbon tax yet but they,ll be compensated I dont believe any govt when they say heres a new tax but you will be better off and have more money

There are people that finish with hypothermia because they cannot turn the heater on and there are more that died because the heater was the cause of the fire.
We cannot bring isolate cases because then I can say to you that I am in the low income category and use only $800 a year in electricity or less and do not suffer from cold. I cannot afford that because my health.
Planning the life and house according to the elements and budget is the answer.
The same apply to bring down the emissions be smart and inovative

Arthur I put up that 1 case but I think there are 1000,s of people who dont use their heating because they cant afford the bills now it will be worse in the next few years and not everybody has the opportunaty to plan their home to be energy efficent they have to live in pensioner flats provided by the govt many with no heating other than electric heaters that they buy themselves usally the cheapest they can find and they are inefficent.

I dont believe any govt when they say they will over compensate for something it hasnt ever happened before

Check out this article and the related video on the economists thoughts and an explanation of how some of the policy works.

I suspect that this will be indicative of this entire term and why I'm not convinced that the next election is determined or that Abbott will even be the Libs best option.

    Economists slam Abbott's carbon plans
    Cheers

Yes I read that article abd I did not mentioned it here because more than one will say that these people are ferrals

Regarding the next election we have to remember that 49% of the parlamentarian libs were in favor of the emission plan by Malcom Turnbull and the other 51% for Abbott.
We have to consider that Joe Hocket was in favor of Turnbull when he was keeping his seat warm and now he support Abbott for the same purpose.
There are interesting time ahead in both sides of politics and many are sharping the saw to chop the legs of their leader

Many years ago early 1970's, I, and 1000 other people, purchased just one share in Portland Cement Co worth around $1. Got a 3 cent dividend check. each year, plus a large glossy annual report. See this company had mining leases at that time over the Church Creek [colong] caves, and the caving club that I was in did not want those caves mined.

I still have that share and have never bothered to tell taxation of my income from that share

He may have other reasons for having those shares, other than to make a lot of money.

As far as the Hybrid vehicle discussion. I am in a RFS bush-fire brigade. We were told that if one is in an accident we are to stand back and let it burn, even if the occupants are trapped and will burn to death. See our brigade has no breathing gear, and the fumes from the burning batteries are so toxic that they will kill us firefighters if we do breathe them. And nearest breathing gear is 20 minutes away from our station, not counting call out time, hence any one in a crashed Hybrid on fire will die--What if they were your kids

So Hybrid technology may be okay for you guys in the city who live near a cityfire station that has breathing gear, and CABA trained personnel, but is not suitable away from the inner city.

John, your point is intereting but it is not the fault of the technology it is because the authorities do not took into consideration this problem.
