    Thanks guys.

I phoned up. I was told they were holding my order waiting for a part to come in. I had already told them to substiture that part. (I suspect the person who was handling it had gone on holidays).

They said they would send me a shipping quote in a couple of hours, and sure enough they did!

    Quite a large/heavy order - shipping varied between ~100GBP and ~190GBP (3-day express).

In contrast, I recently purchased some snow chains from Duckworth Parts (see Duckworth Parts - Genuine Land Rover - Range Rover - Jaguar - Isuzu Parts and Accessories). They were not in stock but they had them within a week. Their courier picked up the chains on a Monday (their time) and they were in Canberra Friday (our time), the same week.

i ordered a part, checked out,and was told on checkout that i would be contacted with a freight quote, it then took me to paypal to pay for the goods, so i did,
so i had paid for the item and was waiting for the freight quote so i could pay for the freight, that was where the delay was.

as i see some others have had the same issue.

i put in a paypal dispute and the same day i was contacted by paddocks with a freight quote. not sure if coincidence or not..
They got me with that too . It seems they won't quote freight until you're committed. I paid for the item on wednesday and got the freight quote friday arvo followed by a paypal invoice for the selected postage service a few hours later. I read Rosscoe's 2nd post too and that's a long way from inspiring for a bloke that's borrowing cars whilst waiting for an alternator to arrive.

    Cheers,
    Anthony.

I thought you were describing me there I wish I had known the alternator was about to fail when I ordered the head and all the other parts...

This time I had learned my lesson. I phoned up and ordered on wednesday arvo (8:30 am there). I said I needed the alternator ASAP and could they please try and send it today. They said they would email me a freight quote. I said don't bother - just send it 3-day TNT express as I need it ASAP. By thursday arvo (yesterday) I had not been emailed a con note. I called them up. It had been shipped the day I ordered, and was already on a plane out of heathrow.

    Shipping was ~50GBP
