When my 1997 300tdi fender is long int he tooth ....
    new seats
    new engine and ancillaries
    diffs rebuilt
    gear box and transfer rebuilt
    chassis hot dipped
    body repainted
    another 5 x7.50.x16 Michelin XZL's

still have a better vehicle than that pile of plastic rubbish , purpose built , good for another 20 years and a third of the price to refurbish ... can get me everywhere and home with proper off road rims and rubber .

Land Rover have lost the spirit of adventure to cater for mall creeping mums with wobbly bums and accountant hubbies

Bring us back down to earth!! I watched the video and thought I could do one of those sports ones.. They had me sold.. Mind you I was thinking the wife could drive it and I might get to drive my Puma more.

    Thanks for the reality Check

Ha we looked at a Hyundai for her last week.. But LR keep giving us a freelander when the defender is in the shop and that is a lot..

We have a Freelander at the moment, she drives from the Gold Coast to Brisbane every day and now wants one.. She even had the cheek to ask me last night if we could trade in for a freelander...

So can see a compromise there in 2015..

Pat , sounds to me the cheapest and most efficient compromise that can be made in this situation is Divorce .

Sure you will miss the hot meals and the occasional "get me a beer love" but long term you will still have your defender .
Any youngling that should happen to then throw her hairy lasoe on the bed to rope you in MUST BE TOLD : the defender was here before you , and will be here after you

Keep the Defender. Get her something to drive.
My wife loves driving our D1 and is actually resisting my plan to get a cheap runabout to keep the miles down on the Disco.

Right on the money there. It is the same thinking that LR inherited from the bean counters at British Leyland. After BL came BMW and the bean counters were joined by marketers and professional executives. Neery an engineer amongst them, let alone those who understood what used to be the "core" market. It is no wonder there was so much tension between the shop floor and management at the time.

The Evoque apparently will also be available in a two (front) wheel drive only version.
Saw something about that. It is electronic I believe and linked to the traction control. Don't think you will see red and yellow knobs in this unless they were brought into it by the driver/passenger

I read that Ford wanted to cancel the Defender altogether and concentrate on premium vehicles, but the LR people fought and were only able to get some money for upgrades, but not a replacement. Under Tata, JLR is making so much money it can do the Defender as well. I hope Ford is seriously regretting selling JLR now that it made as much profit in a year as Ford got for selling it. Very short-sighted.

This interview raises hope. Multiple variants, same price point, world platform, "good for the retail and commercial buyer".

    meh. Corporate double speak.

The important parts in there is his reference to opening emerging and new markets. Read that as China, India, and SE Asia. Those markets want different things to what you or I do.
