I knew about 5. Then there was some apparent "scientific" reason that it was the case but I lost track after my two girls were born but it makes you wonder.
Same story with a mate who works in a coal fired power plant. All the EMF from the generators seems to send the little boys haywire, and the blokes have a disproportionately higher number of daughters than sons.

Now that I might believe, as they even make special watches for this phenomenon. 6 Best Anti-Magnetic Watches - Gear Patrol

Ah yes. Years ago when the State Govt established a large dedicated computer room for a Data Centre near Victoria Square, we installed 2 of these.

Then PBD decided they needed a certain size of Oil Separators, overlooked in the specs. So ok, we arranged it for an early evening start after the employees had buggered off, to remove & replace the original ones when a crew of 3 blokes would arrive & start de-soldering all the copper joints after we Fridgies had pumped them back & balanced the pressures.

Next thing we knew was a group of about six of the then SAFB Firemen in their tall helmets emptying into the plant room. They were big blokes to start with as at that time they ( the Chief Officer) recruited ex merchant navy Seamen, ex Submariners, Wrestlers & extremely fit blokes because they were experienced Rope handlers etc but the old style Black Metro helmets made them appear like 10' Giants.

What happened was, there was a concealed (from us) smoke alarm somewhere & you know how much smoke is given off from burning or heated Fridge oil don't you?

We had been advised by the PBD (Public Buildings Department) that all precautions had been taken & parties advised. BOLLOCKS!

So we asked what we could do next time if it occurred? Ring the SAFB Watchroom? "Nope, we would be here before you put the phone down" says the Station Officer. "We have an obligation to attend as we don't know if it is a false call". ( I meant to say the SAFB Engineroom was only down Wakefield St a few hundred yards as it is still today.)

We being inside, never heard a siren or anything else to announce their arrival or that they had been summoned, they just seemed to materialise out of nowhere.

Of course today, with 'elf & Safety, things would be handled differently. One hopes.

Hmm,smoke alarms,we cover them with those disposable gloves, that sorts them out

Although quite a few yrs ago i emptied a TAFE of people, and the fire brigade turned up after i blew out a condenser coil on the Skope cabinet in a staff room.

Not my fault i told them, your smoke sensor must be faulty,we avoided the mandatory $1000 fee,in those days.Since then it has gone up.I believe in the CBD the fine is around $10K.

We had a 5H126 in a Toowoomba K mart store, many years ago,get so hot it burnt the paint off it,melted the solder on the suction pressure load/unload bellows, and oil pick up strainers, eventually went out on oil pressure failure. The internal pressure relief valve had failed. That system took over 400KG's of R22,all gone out the bellows. And there were three of those in the plant room.

    You too eh?

That is fine if you are aware there is an alarm there to place the condom/glove over.

I won't even mention the time one of my blokes set fire to the insulation in the attic casing of an old WW2 ac unit in the Univ of Adelaide Medical School Animal House Mouse Breeding Room that got the Firies all excited. Originally an ac unit for Troop Food Research & Diets. About 7 floors up & in the tiled roof space.

Oh hang on, I just did. Bugger.
