I once had a cracked screen and windscreen cover but the insurance co. wouldn't cover it as I couldn't name the date it happened.

Was just thinking along the insurance line myself. Inc's situation is probably one where a dash-cam would be useful. Claim against insurance with the other driver at fault.

I am no expert here, but are they at fault?
My understanding was that insurance companies accept that things like stone chips and cracked windscreens from freshly resurfaced roads etc 'just happen'.
Wonder if anyone here is in the know?
I'd be interested to find out.

i have free glass on my car insurance because i do so many bush miles...

no cost to me other than 3 hours lost time at geebung getting a new one fitted.

they wont do this model caddy screen onsite unless there is no other way round it because of the aerials etc in the glass.

They will fit the cheapest, poorest quality glass they have. Insist on good quality glass, even if you have to wait. I had a cracked w/screen and the crap they fitted made you seasick looking out of it (it was also noticeably thinner than the OE windscreen). My insurance company was excellent (plug for Shannons) and O'Briens changed it with genuine LR (Pilkingtons) at no cost to me. It was a three week wait.

Had my windscreen cracked from a stone thrown up by a guy mowing the footpath. I didn't have free glass replacement in my policy at the time so I stopped and got his details. The insurance company waived the excess but I doubt whether they would have bothered folowing up the "other party".

The simple rules I have always followed are always deal with your own insurance provider (not the other party's) and always provide details of any other parties involved regardless of the circumstances or extent of damage.

Did you get his number plate?
