Gees! We are being ripped of more than I thought!!!! I guess we are a captive market here to a certain extent, so the rotten sods just exploit us!! I was thinking about buying a kindle, but as they charge us more for books in Aus, I'll give them a miss now. Thanks for sharing the useful article.

If a kindle bothers you that much. How do you live with owning a Land Rover?

Massive rip off in your driveway.

I agree - I was shopping at my local Woolies for bread on Monday. I normally buy one loaf of Woolies Brand Toast bread for toast and is usually costs about $2.30 a loaf. On the sales tray it had Woolies Bread for $2.60 and that was supposed to be 40% off making the full price $4.33 a loaf . This bread was going out like hot cakes (bread), yet over on the bread shelves the same bread was listed at its usual price of $2.30 and was not selling at all.

Same as people used to be happy to pay much more for petrol in Double Bay (the equiv of Toorak in Melb) because only quality goods are sold in Double Bay.

    People are strange at times.

    Hey!
50358km on our 2009 dsg 1.9 diesel golf and only one small issue at around 15k!

To be fair, the battery is about to expire and it does now need brake pads, but overall, glad we bought it. Been a great small car.

    Was expensive though

    Cheers

Slightly off topic, but was watching an older episode of QI and they made a point that shoe companies 'have to' make a very expensive shoe, despite the fact that it does the same as the moderately priced shoe. Why? Because people will pay.

I love the psychology of it all.

    Ingenious British niche-Marketing, that's why...

    - Same mindset at British Airways, when they increased ticket-sales on the Concorde... by lifting the price....and were well on the way to turning that division into a healthy profit-making entitiy, when...

But they added value to a great idea, whereas Land Rover's apathy and incompetance...

I understand that Proxy servers can be used to hide the user's details, making it possible to access local prices as compared with "Australian" retail gougi... er, prices.

Silly thing is.... there is still the odd Bootmaker around who will make you a pair of perfectly fitting, hand-crafted (and repairable) top quality shoes/boots, for around the same price as the 'expensive' ones above.

    But they'll last...
