Plus oil at around $60 to $70 for 5 litres, so probably close to $160

True. I use 1.5 bottes of oil per service which brings it to about your $160 with oil and filters (excluding fuel filter)

Testing has shown my oil is fine up to 20k

So I do a complete change at 20.
    Filters and oil.

Ongoing testing confirms no issues so will be sticking to that...

    Waste not, want not!

However, that vehicle does not tow so it's use isn't as strenuous as some, which may need changes at 15 or less.

    oil change

When I bought the td5 last year i ordered 20 lts of the synthetic oil as recommended by Hunter & Cuthill here in Geelong.
I was surprised to find it cost $299.00 for the 20 lts =$14.99 per ltr.Not so bad when you look at it like that.
As 7.5 lts x 20, is not divisible by three I need some more for my next oil change.
Does anyone know what the name of this Land Rover friendly is?

The last revision of the LR service schedule has a range of arduous conditions listed on the back which warrant 10,000km oil changes:

    - repeated short distance driving: trips under 8km, stop/start driving
    - driving in dusty/sandy conditions
    - extended periods of driving in hot conditions (above 35°C)
    - towing or driving in mountainous conditions

Most of my day to day driving falls foul of the first, so I feel 10,000km is reasonable.

There is also an oil change interval of 400hrs if you spend more than 50% of the time idling or driving below 16kph.

    cheers
    Paul

Not too bad if they are genuine. Just priced up genuine parts (two oil filters) shipped from the UK and these would come to $63 at current exchange rates.

    Ahem.
Both of my oil filters are sourced from the local stealers, definitely genuine, got them both for $45

I was just in at British Car components picking up an air filter ($23 for genuine) but forgot to check on the price of oil filters.... $45 is pretty good.

I'd checked prices on a certain central Victorian online seller forgetting they are usually my benchmark for most expensive local parts. Their prices are $40 for a Mahle centrifugal filter and $25 for genuine full flow. As a point of comparison they list the genuine air filter at $39.60 inc gst.
