Guys I originally wrote this last night but i couldnt get it to post ................................

Hmm guys this is the way i see it - with 7 years of tyre shop running in another life.

Kumho tyres - while they are great fitment to hyundai - and we used to have lots of trouble replacing them with exactly the same ones as came from factory.......

My Kumho 4x4 expetience has ALLWAYS left me cold and generally cose me money in warranty claims for out of round - making them near on impossible to balance. But things may have changed in the past 7 years.

Some tyre shops used to use the line that they are made by michelin....they may be by companies owned by michelin but they arent michelin product. BTW we also used to find that Michelin tyres fitted to Subaru never got the same mileage on the second set something about the diffrence of carbon black in the rubber mix from OE to general market tyres

Vlad I know you have em - and im glad they serve you well - but for mine you couldnt give me a kumho tyre ......

Sime - i noticed recently that sime tyres (not to be confused with simex) are alleging on the radio that they are tyre provider to the V8 supercars.... We used to see them as a low end tyre - which we made HUGE profit on - they cost Nothing with a capital N!.

For mine if I was looking for a Rag (ie not a steel radial) Id be looking at the Firestone SAT (if ya can still get it)

Kelly tyres also have some good cheap radials out at the moment - with tread patterns like some Euro Goodyears (kellys are made by Goodyear NZ)

But I tell ya what i like the lok of that rhodan - ill be letting landrover terry know about that - could be the goods for the S3 V8......It has a pattern nearly identical to the old Goodyear custom extra grip which was the same as the Olympic Road Track Major (may not be the right name )

    I likes it i tells ya...............cant go wrong with 14ply !!!!!!

Well i got to see both the sime and the rhoden this morning

sime comes in 8 ply and 12 ply
rhoden comes in 8 ply and 14 ply

on the advice of the owner of the tyre shop i went with the sime 8ply

    reasoning....

the konvoy has been around for years in the same form and he has never seen one back.

the rhoden xgrip is rebadged as a gt and a couple of other brands and he has had several back with side wall failures but said they had been to hell and back.

on a swb landy he wouldnt even consider putting a 12 or 14 ply on unless i was crossing sturts stony with a 2 ton ice box.

the 12 ply and 14 ply tyres transmit copious amounts of vibration back to the chassis.

the 12 ply and 14 ply tyres are okay on very heavily laden lwb or lwb with 4bdi diesel engines, but he has seen quite a few frame fractures from them esp on the rear crossmembers.
