I always thought it was only utes that had bonnet mounted spares......I too have always thought mine doesn't comply as the previous owner fitted it after purchase. Mines a wagon. Oh and it's probably the main reason I front axle weight going over when I'm in touring mode.

    Hi,

I have that thing in the bonnet. It is a 1989 ex-UK army.

The only big con is the air drag. Visibility is not a biggie while on the city, although in rough terrain you have to "memorize" the holes/rocks as they will disappear from your view several meters before you reach them.

Wheel is heavy, so I have a piece of timber I use as a "backup" just in case the original mechanism fails and the bonnet tries to crush me against the engine.

Bonnet has a reinforcing frame, although I discovered recently that it was cracked. It took me a big amount of time to unbolt the frame from the bonnet to fix it (steel plate welded).

You could be right. I just know there is something regarding view points forwards and height above seat base.

But honestly RTA rules are very open. For example (unless there has been a change) I can fail you for rust on your door frame but I can't fail you for a broken door frame, (I personally have been corrected by the RTA for that).

The ADR's are a national standard and are not open to interpretation. They are very specific.
The spare wheel on the bonnet of a Series Landrover is within the ADR's. No if's, no but's. It does not matter if it is a ute or wagon.
Change the size of the tyre from standard, it may have to be checked again.
On an Evoque, I'm tipping it won't conform to the ADR's. Still, for a definitive answer, it would have to be tested.

Regarding Pink slips, mauve slips, puce slips or whatever other slips are used in NSW, I have no interest in whatsoever.

Without having read back through this thread I agree. There is a rolling ball test for bonnet scoops etc that will apply and there is no way in the world an Evoke or a Puma would pass it with a spare on the bonnet. The series vehicles were pre this regulation and factory fitted so can use them.
    Cheers

I remember someone asked this question on FB.
    I had a look into a little.
The td5 sits a little taller than a tdi.
Because of this the td5 lost some of the bracing that the tdi bonnet had IIRC.
Regardless of what type of defender I had , I would be going swing away.
