Sadly this is so. Found a pub in Daventry where my folks live that made a very passable flat white, but the average offering is rubbish.

SubscriberYeah good coffee isn't as easy to find as over here, but it's a question of knowing where to look - if you're going anywhere near the midlands/Coventry/Warwick area, I can give you some good cafes!
If you're stuck, there's a few starbucks type places, there's lots of Cafe Neros around which are a slight improvement over your average starbucks!

Major part of the heart and soul of AULRO.comRe coffee, our local roaster gave me the names of several good places. Tried Workshop in Clerkenwell Rd at Farringdon yesterday. Very good, they roast their own. Place used to be owned by St Ali from Melbourne. The waiter had worked in Oz and knew how we like good coffee

Major part of the heart and soul of AULRO.comGaaahh!! I've been in the UK for two weeks and I'll be glad to get out of London. I loathe this place because of the crowds and the prices. I am seriously sick of it. I will never come back to London except on the way to somewhere else by plane.
