You response just shows again how stupid some people are. Are they for real. It appears so. Drive to the conditions it's not rocket science. Or is it a case of I am more important than wildlife. So I can drive at whatever speed I chose?. So if I take out a few animals that's okay. Interesting observations.
Unless its a koala or something of that nature bad luck for being on the road at the wrong time...no the bullbar isn't a political stance however the government has turned it into oneI have it on there to serve a purpose...frustrates me that they are more concerned about a bullbar rather than the car driving past with a boot full of meth with a driver that can't speak English

Yes. I agree.
My beef is how you managed to get that vehicle registered with that bullbar when others trying to get their Perenties registered with bullbars that comply with the ADR's are being told to remove them, in one case because it was "aggressive".
There is no consistency. It seems personal opinions are replacing law nowdays.
There was a willy wagtail that collided with my bullbar on my work ute today,it ended up stuck under the windscreen wiper.
Never mind, its death wasnt wasted, one of the boys removed it and dropped it down one of the other boys builders smile he had in display whilst fitting stormwater pipes, priceless. Not only did he suddenly learn to fly the bird was entombed deep in his crack which involved removing his strides to get it out

Well the poster is from Werribe which is famous for only one thing.
But seriously why can't we discuss the vehicle, trip, etc without getting into a mud slinging contest. (Again).
I an not endorsing Chiefs driving style, but I don't drive those roads or do those miles for work. Besides I would be waiting for the proverbial black bullock in a dip of the road at 2am.
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

While I have avoided this thread so far, I will just make a couple of comments. I have about 60km to town, which I do usually once a week. Every trip I see probably an average of four or five dead roos from the previous night. I suspect mostly from long distance trucks overnight.
Personally I probably hit one head on perhaps once every couple of years, but numerous close calls, despite "driving to conditions". Twice I have had roos hit the side of my vehicle at high enough speed to cause significant damage - one while I was doing less than 10kph, having slowed for his mates crossing in front of me. As far as possible I avoid travelling at dawn and dusk, but in heavy overcast they can be found moving about even in the middle of the day. And with the drought tightening the food supply there seem to be large numbers of big ones moving in from further west.
Talking to a panelbeater in town a couple of years ago, he had no hesitation in nominating roos as the source of most of his business.

In regards to your last comment, John. I have a panel beating mate in western Queensland who says most of his work is due to a specific breed of macropod ; the square legged kangaroo, common name _guide post.![]()
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
