Once I was working a barge, when one of the Deck Hands jumped from the bow of the tug and put his foot straight down a gap between the two pods that it was made up of. The result was a compound fracture of both his Tibia and Fibula. I stopped his bleeding and put my favourite sleeping bag over him to reduce the effects of shock. That's respect. I then started joking with him about how he had destroyed my sleeping bag and made us late, amongst other things. until the chopper took him away. That's levity. I have done the same in similar situations on a few occasions now, and it always seems to be beneficial.
