No they don't.

The only vehicles that need an pilot or escort vehicle are oversize wider than 3.7 metres and if there is more than 500m of vision oversize agricultural vehicles don't need a pilot.

No veteran or vintage car requires an amber flashing light or pilot vehicle.

As a motorist you have a responsibility to drive to the conditions and to avoid other road users. While some road users have restrictions like not travelling on freeways or motorways, when it comes to rural roads with a 100kph limit no such restriction exists. There are many situations where you will have to make emergency stops or manoeuvres. What's to say that you wont come around a corner at 100kph and find a tree fallen across the road or a breakdown or vehicular crash. Its unlikely there will be flashing lamps and none of them will have pilot vehicles.

there's a Denmark guy riding around the world (4 years on the road) and so far aussie drivers (called out Sydney) have been the worst. Currently in South America, not even robbed there. Others have been at gunpoint.

I have no problem with some one riding a bike to work. One bike is normally not a problem to cars. It is the weekend warriors with their pack mentality that gets up my nose.

Regardless of how you feel about cyclists this sort of thing is not on.

I think you could afford to unpack this thought. Do you

1. Keep hold of a festering rage that these people cost you valuable minutes every day and make you worry about your safety.

2. Realise that they are there to stay and you might as well slow down and add to their safety as well as yours.

3. Realise that these guys have money to spare for expensive bikes and providing their food and accommodation could be a good part of the local economy?

I do not have a festering rage and the valuable minutes is also not an issue.

It is the way that they blatantly flout the law and the authorities do nothing.

If I flout the law in a car they come down on me like a ton of bricks.

Not according to the threads oh here about speeding and bad driving being very common.

EDIT - and most peletons i see here are only riding 2 abreast so they are obeying the law.

Like it or not. Cycling is the new golf for executives, surgeons, etc. The guy you are complaining about may be the only person who can save your life if you get cancer, etc...

Those getting worked up need to 'eat a snickers' and relax.

Cyclists are a minority, they rarely impact upon anyones drive / journey and are here to stay.

There is a huge cycling contingent in Whyalla, often on the highway and main road out of town to the lighthouse. Often have an escort vehicle but sometimes dont if its just a few mates training.

Only on a few occasions have I had to brake hard after coming around a corner to find a group... Thats what paying attention and driving properly is all about.

Do some flaunt the law? absolutely... But then so do we all at some point - remember - exceeding the speed limit by 2km/h is flaunting the law, as is passing illegally, etc etc...

Move on people - if this bites you you really need to get a soothing hobby.
Perhaps take up cycling :angel:

Seriously, its up to police to be out there monitoring bad behaviour of ALL road users, rather than relying on automatic cameras to pinch pennies off creepers. I fully agree that the authorities can do better, obviously though the financial returns on greater harassment of cyclists can't be good enough to warrant more patrols. Cyclists may indeed be fined less often than motorists for bad behaviour, but believe me they pay dearly on the rare occasions when things go pear shaped.
