Interestingly, I went for a short drive the other day. What I saw in the first ten minutes impressed me. The cyclists in South Australia are much more intelligent than their counterparts in Victoria. Most understand the road rules.

This fellow wanted to get knocked off his ride:

This fellow was well in the cycling lane:

As were these two who were not riding two abreast:

A skill that sadly appears to be lost by the riders to the east.
Looks like Pt Elliot & Middleton there Mick? I hope you're enjoying our lovely south coast There's an awesome safe cycle path down there all the way along the coast, off the road (mainly). My preferred place to cycle (off the road).

Agree with the other bit, watch the drivers, they're not very courteous when it comes to allowing you to merge, unless you're a whole car length in front then it's game on and they wont give an inch...and speeding up when an overtaking lane appears, after doing 20 under the limit beforehand etc.

I just realised what the cyclist was doing. On a low traffic road he's moved out so the following Mexican can see he's avoiding a parked car on the road ahead of him. Little did he realise that said Mexican couldn't see a clear oncoming lane to safely overtake in.

Well he's not versed on year 8 physics and particularly his speed in relation to the approaching vehicle. He's approx 80m from parked vehicle and approaching vehicle is less than 40m behind, it doesn't take a rocket scientist or Lance Armstrong to understand the approaching vehicle is doing at least twice his speed and will pass him before needing to occupy the centre! of the lane.

But why not force the issue and hope like hell that the driver 'expects' this idiocy and can react in time.

My thoughts are the cyclist doesn't have a mirror or any idea what to do with one, for all we know from that pic, he may have meandered right and into his driveway, all without looking or indicating.

True, if he was at work, hard to know from the details published, he said he was 'late' so we can assume he was on his way to work but we don't know if it was actually 'company time' yet.

I reckon if he said late for 'tennis' then he'd still be employed.

But...he should be sacked for using 'lol' so lame...

Sometimes even police have to throw out a fine or two because of inaccuracies in the data they collect. And sometimes cyclists get fed up with being treated as second class citizens and lash out. And lets not forget all those unregistered pedestrians creating mayhem merely by existing.

    Round and round we go.
So, what are you saying, just like bicycles, cars should not be registered as registration is useless anyway?
    Yep. I'd support that.

I'm all for the abolition of registration. Registration is a stupid scheme because it insufficiently identifies the operator and penalises light users. There could be suitably placed detectors and all people would have RFID chips embedded in them and no-one could escape the reach of the law. They could be taxed based on how and when they use a particular facility and drive any of their vehicles whenever they wanted without having to pay thousands up front. Great idea!

You could spend your entire life speculating based on little else than a single snap shot taken out of context and viewed through a film of prejudice. Perhaps Mick could post up the entire piece of video and show us what exactly happened, eh? Truth is, no-one got hurt here and all it is about is a venting of spleens. Let's let it go, like grown ups?
