mobile while driving is easy to enforce, camera.

I ride as far left as I safely can, and most drivers easily give me at least the 1 metre.
Biggest issue for me is the tradies towing trailers- I get the meters from the vehicle, then some cut back in a bit early and the trailer can almost get me.
Truckies generally are more aware of the space they need and allow.
All in all, we share the road ok, and ratbags on both sides of this equation are in the minority in my experience. It's just that they are so obvious when they misbehave.

You know its close when you can feel the wind disturbance from the bumper on your calf as they go past you.

I did an experiment this morning. I rode large, basically at least 1metre from the kerb for the short stretch I have before I get to the cycle lane. The 2 cars that passed me both overtook properly going halfway across the centre line and giving me plenty of room. Normally as the road is quite wide cars just go round me whilst staying in their lane.

If it was so easy, then the Police should have stamped that practice out by now, but it's more rampant than ever. I see easily 6 to 10 drivers a day using a mobile while driving, you would need cameras every few metres doing it your way to have any effect.

Imagine if no phone could operate above 20kmph, , can't be that hard.
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

not good for passengers, people on busses etc
and it would mean the driver could use their phone while stopped at the lights

police dont target it like they do speeding.

in adelaide, there have been a few operations where cops just stand at the traffic lights and nab people that what. quite effective

POLICE have nabbed almost 50 drivers or motorbike riders a day using mobile phones, which has prompted the extension of Operation Distraction.

Why published hatred against cyclists must be stamped out

Because if not it leads to dangerously stupid acts like this one:

Police investigate rope-stringing incident that injured cyclist

That is truly stupid, and no doubt could be a criminal act. Beeutey, remembering I'm a cyclist, as are my kids, what I read on this thread is not hating 'cyclists', even though the title implies it.

Comments here are on SOME cyclist's behavior, and car drivers are mentioned too. I think you are taking it a bit too personal and perhaps trying to agitate?
