It's a G rated forum here - if you want to dick around with stuff that isn't then I highly recommend you go find a forum that accepts that kind of behaviour. This one certainly doesn't. The Adsense rules prohibit us from doing so - it's not just us being prudes, we have to uphold the T's and C's they dictate, or the advertising gets pulled.

No ifs, buts or maybes - no humour, nothing - take that stuff elsewhere - everyone here has been warned. If it crops up again, further action will be taken.

Play nice. No more warnings.... My sense of humour has completely gone regarding this thread - just give me a reason to lock it...

I only really rode a pushy as a kid to school and the obligatory paper round but have ridden motorbikes from just after that. After a couple of nasties on the road (some my fault, some not), my survival instinct is pretty high, So to answer your question - I presume ALL of them are.

My father told me to presume everyone else on the road is an idiot trying to hit me, no matter what I'm driving. It was good advice and true.

On the contrary. All cycling on roads is ENTIRELY reliant on drivers being courteous and not running you over. Not being a courteous driver is being ignorant of the facts.

Let what go? My road rights as a cyclist?
If you re-read my last post No. 882 and the cyclist had a warning device and if he had any brains, he would realise that the rear approaching car probably has limited opportunity to avoid him,
due to the narrow road and the oncoming car, so although the cyclist has right of way, it is in his best interests, for his survival, to move off the road.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

No more of that sort of thing please.
No problem here Gav, I wasn't aware it was over the top, but I'll go with your call as I agree to abide by the rules.

As for the kids, those Yugiyo cartoons are worse and operation ouch has some gruesome stuff, yes I'd be happy for them to view the video as long as I was with them to explain what was happenning. Some of those incidents are good examples of what can happen when you don't pay attention and treat the road as it needs to be.

Again, I fully support your position, the moderators understand the classification system and ad restrictions better than me.

    Cheers, all good.

In Maritime Collage we were constantly told "Always assume that the other bloke is an idiot.". This is the only assumption you are allowed to make.
    Cheers, Billy.
    Keeping it simple is complicated.

Thanks, here's another fact. Mechanical failures aren't going to be courteous to you.

Recently we had a truck lose its brakes coming down the freeway (Adelaide), cars being pushed every which way. If you were cycling, sadly your expectations that everyone accomodate you would have failed. I don't think you'd have a leg to stand on.

Emergency vehicles may be approaching you and NEED to get by because someone else just may be more important than your 'right to be there'. Sure you may hear the sirens, but not as early as you'd SEE the lights (assumes you didn't have earphones pumping out tunes, deaf people ride too). Every vehicle needs to have mirrors on the road to be aware of what is approaching and react or be courteous if necessary/convenient, why are SOME cyclists above this law and ignorant of the possible consequence?

About 2 years ago a prominent midwife and wife of a Doctor was sadly killed while cycling in a 100kph zone near Victor Harbor. A woman driver hit her from behind and didn't stop. Thankfully the law tracked her down and justice was somewhat served, but there are and no doubt will be other dangerous drivers who are a risk to your ideal view - that all behind you must avoid you and you can do as you please when you please, the force or something will protect you.

As all vehicles need mirrors, and as drivers we are tought to scan them, when you hook up your wide caravan, isn't it odd that you also must add extended mirrors? This isn't so you can see who must respect your right to use the road, it's so that you can SHARE the road and react if you see flashing lights etc.

You and those quick to support your right to be oblivious to what is behind you, mechanically sound, alert OR OTHERWISE quickly chime that everyone else should share the road and be courteous. Newsflash, they are, they have mirrors and know what they're for. Do a risk analysis and see what you've missed when coming to the conclusion that your right to be there will protect you. Think of the downhill loss of control incidents in Adelaide and a long time ago in Perth, then consider why we've allowed bikes to be the only ones without mirrors and rely on good luck or superior attitude to keep them safe from what they can't / won't see behind them...

You can knock every idea to keep you safe in the 'real world' and trust in the force, but there are hopefully others that may see the light and at the least buy a mirror and assess one more risk.

    Goodluck Jedi.

    What a load of dribble.

Watch out for yourself, this isn't America. Ride defensively.

When I ride motorbikes on the road I have to ride defensively, that includes not putting myself in the path of possible danger, so should you.

This attitude is like little man syndrome, let's call it "cyclist syndrome", it's where you, on your little Norco trail blazer sit in the left lane on a highway, doing 12km/h uphill thinking you are a Mack ****ing truck and everyone else will avoid you because you are bigger. No. You're a cyclist. I'll clean you up before I drive head on into a Mack truck, I'm not stupid, I know what will hurt more.

Motor cyclists get it, in fact they're all over defensive riding. But they don't have a syndrome, as they can keep up

When we move farm machinery along the road we have to have a front and rear escort, a cyclist doing 12km uphill is no different to a tractor doing 12km uphill, you still can't avoid them. Difference is you know about the tractor as its escort was behind the crest, where it could be seen!

A little bit of self preservation goes a long way...
