right!
and the solution is to get the cyclists off the road!

That's a pretty broad statement Pocket.
Considering we have over 6500 active users, I'd be surprised if 1% of them had contributed to this thread. So I'm not sure the reflection is on AULRO, rather one or two individuals on both sides of this discussion.
Everyone here is entitled to their opinion. When the mod team consider someone has gone too far - it's removed and appropriate action taken as has already occurred several times in this thread.
This is a subject many get very passionate about with pretty diverse views. At times, IMHO, some need to learn to take a deep breath and go make a cup of coffee before posting.
Any specific posts you have concerns with, you are welcome to raise with the mod team via the red and white triangle report link in the top right of the post if you feel it's needed.
Which is back to my orignal point. You have to apply resources to stopping and checking to determine if someone is required to have a license.
I don't mind adding a cycling license to my driver's license and BWA member registration (which provides insurance cover) but whilst they're in my pocket it doesn't identify me unless you stop me and ask to see them.
While you can then say that you can be identified by having your registration displayed on your helmet have a think about how easy it is going to be to have a 6 or 8 digit identification code displayed. Especially on a lightweight racing helmet. They'll be very small numbers or letters.
As an aside, how many of the motorists on this forum who have expressed their displeasure at cyclists would seriously change their attitude if we were registered and willingly share the road with us?
i think you are referring to two separate problems.
1) registration/breaking the law
2) sharing the road/being slowed down by cyclists.
#1 is easy to fix
#2 is not so easy
and imho, the #2 is more annoying. i dont like being slowed down. even by other cars. dont get me started on cars who sit in the right hand lane
yes and no.
if their registered, cyclics will either stop breaking the law (running red lights, etc), or lose their licence and be off the road. holding up traffic is against the law, its just not enforced. if this was enforced, maybe we would have our solution.
I can already get demerits on my driving license for breaking road rules on my bike. So we're back to the fact that the laws are already there without the need for licensing its up to the police to enforce them.
If they start enforcing this law then all those grey nomads will have to stay home instead of blocking up our highways doing 80kmh in a 110 zone and speeding up as soon as they hit an overtaking lane so no-one else can get passed.Quote:
