Cyclists.

As a cyclist and Series Landy driver I appreciate the problems, though obviously bigger vehicles are even more difficult to keep away from cyclists!

Here's the problem with your comments, Sitec. On the bike I can't keep up with traffic - most of the time. But even pretty-unfit-old-me can average over 25km/hr and I'll hit up to 60 down a hill. No meandering 2m wide shared-with-pedestrians "Bicycle path" can cope with those speeds. I do a loop ride that takes in about 200m of "bicycle path" and have yet to ride that section without coming across a pedestrian, more often than not walking a dog. They don't get off the path - I have to ride on the grass! 4 to 10km/hr? That is walking speed!

Back when I was at Uni I would regularly ride in heavy traffic, split lanes, whatever, because frankly it was SAFER than the bike paths in Brisbane.

Now that I own a Series IIa Landy I am able to travel the same kinds of speeds in greater safety!

Not a solution - as you say a large heavy vehicle has limits placed by physics - but cyclists don't chose roads to make trouble, they do it to avoid (or reduce the risk of) trouble.

The thing is the cyclists lane in the pic I provided was BLOCKED by the White barrier, that means the cyclist failed to merge from his blocked lane into traffic. Apparently that barrier had been set up for several weeks before the accident, so it was not a new thing.

As for a truck waiting behind you? Going uphill ,depending upon the grade ,you might be doing less than 12kmh which at a 50m distance would give you 15-20 seconds to slow or avoid a slow turning courier. I've never seen a courier taking 10-20 seconds to get into a driveway, unless it's a b-double .:D
Also by now you'd know the courier company, so would have more than 15 seconds to take evasive action, obviously your saying 15seconds isn't enough, the question remains , what is?
But before answering sit and watch the clock tic Tok and tell me how many you need to apply the brakes or turn out of a dangerous situation?:twisted:

During the recent ride around the bay in Vic those going anti clockwise entered Queenscliff and were directed off the highway onto a minor street (Stokes St) which happens to cross the main drag in town (Hesse St) at a roundabout with normal give way signs all round.

There were no marshals there.

I watched for a bit........... bunches of riders going flat knacker through the give way sign not even looking. Cars with right of way jamming on the brakes, etc.

Very few riders even slowed down for the intersection. It seemed like some sort of pack mentality or 'mission' mindset had taken over from self preservation.

Hey Eevo, there should have been marshals there controlling traffic for an organised event such as that. That's what the riders would have been expecting.
