Last week, I was at a fellow amateur radio operator's place helping to put up an antenna system. That's not special but the ham is. He controls everything with his chin and/or a pen in his mouth.
He's a quad and he became one after being hit by a car whilst he was riding his bicycle. It reminded me of just how vulnerable we cyclists are - although in my case it's motorcyclist.
Riding is dangerous. On a BMW K100RS ( Nice bike) in Sydney I went down while waiting between two cars in a long line of stationary traffic near Bondi Junction. Many of my mates are dead, quadriplegic or paraplegic. It was some times there own riding but often like my own experience totally due to a person in a car not seeing what was right in front of them ( she was at a stop sign when she thought she could squeeze over the top of me between two stopped cars :eek:Quote:

A week ago we nearly saw a lycralist on the front of a "P" platers little Toyota Seca.
On a 100 kph country road this bozo decided to stop & take a helmet Gopro shot of a dead snake on the road. He had just stopped, straddling the pushy, about a metre onto the bitumen.
This was just over the top of a sharp crest on a hill. Being in the Disco the wifey & I got to see him a bit earlier than if in a conventional vehicle so, luckily, with no oncoming traffic, I had time to indicate & move fully into the right hand lane so the poor young bloke behind us could see what was going on. He wasn't tailgating either.
Had there been traffic coming the other way I reckon I would have nearly had to hit the bike or, if I didn't, the young bloke behind would have.
I reckon the poor young bloke still got a fright! A good lesson for him anyway as the roads around this area are full of bike people full of themselves.
Not all cyclists, mind you. There are two or three I see regularly who obviously commute & we're on "waving" terms but, gee the weekend really brings the knobs out.

My understanding, like at Road Works it had to be Police or designated officers.
In South Australia at least, traffic marshalls do a police run training course to get approved.Quote:

The Council of Motoring Clubs NSW even had to have volunteers trained and authorised for them to be able to direct traffic into their annual car show. The Eastern Creek Classic car Show.
