Well, from a cycling point of view, I'm all good. And the more the haters work themselves into a lather, I'm even better. The comments on the news stories are the best - the outrage, the swearing, all those capital letters and exclamation marks. The demands for rego, bans and more fines. All the crying about people riding two abreast, wearing lycra and ruining a favourite caf?.

The fact is that while all those sad sacks are huddled in the foetal position moaning about the injustice of it all, cyclists are out there having a great time. And there's absolutely nothing you can do about it.

Agreed, just plain stupid riding on winding country roads, anything over 60kmh as the cyclist can't achieve that speed (or maintain it then if someone wants to claim they can). So in every case you would be relying on the driver to compensate for your stupidity/arrogance, since no cyclists in this situation uses mirrors (why wouldn't you, oh spent every last cent on glam gear), they wander all over the place with no care factor of what is approaching from behind them at 10 times their speed, but DEMAND that driver give them total immunity when sight distances and other hazards are already placing a large load on their often varying abilities.

Last weekend there were 3 or 4 riding towards us in a 100k zone, they were stand up peddling as they were going up a slight hill. The weather was drizzling, middle of the day but low visibility, and these clowns were wearing BLACK with NO LIGHTS. I was expecting any approaching car to end up in my lane trying to avoid these types not particularly good at 'risk assessment'.

As said before, I cycle, but I don't cycle dumb, these clowns give us a bad perception.

So you hate the haters? Doesn't that make you a hater? So who's who in the zoo?

I reckon you missed the point, no one's complaining about the cyclists using bike lanes and paths or politely avoiding parking on and blocking footpaths OR 'not' being rude to other patrons at cafes.....just the small minority that don't give a **** about anyone else.

Surely you're not defending this 'minority' just because they happen to cycle? Or because it's their right to act like this?

Just asking, not accusing, so don't over-react

Not at all. I'm just describing the haters for what they really are. Although I do admit to having a laugh at their expense from time to time.

Again, not at all. I'm telling you exactly what I think. Cyclists have seen haters whine on and on for years and, while they do present a physical threat on the roads, in general they are a sad, powerless bunch of politically irrelevant blowhards. They've done nothing to slow the growing popularity of cycling in Australia and the industry that supports it, plus they help sell a lot of newspapers/media space. I don't pity them, but it must be sad to belong to a small group of malcontents that will never achieve anything.

    Not in NSW they don't.

    • Overtake on the left hand side of stopped or slow moving vehicles
    • Travel in Bus Lanes and Transit Lanes
    • Ride on the footpath if less than 12 years old
    • Ride on the footpath if you are an adult riding with, and supervising, an under 12 year old
    • Ride on the footpath if you are carrying a person under 10 years old as a passenger on your bicycle or in or on a bicycle trailer you are towing - not a pedicab
    • Turn right from the left hand lane of a multi-lane roundabout with the proviso that you give way to traffic exiting the roundabout before you
    • Travel on road shoulders.

Maybe there are motorists who think they know the road rules that apply to cyclists but in fact have no idea about them. That is a big problem if true.

What is the difference between a slow moving 4 wheel vehicle in a lane of a road and a peleton of cyclists riding two abrest on the same road.

I do disagree with places like the M7 that have 4 lanes for traffic and 4 cycle lanes ( 2 on the motorway and 2 in the boundaries of the motorway enclosure.) and the cyclists prefer to use the cycle lane on the motorway only inches from traffic doing 100kph.

Cycle paths should however be better maintained, the one on Windsor Road is all very nice but the Don Burke features have bushes and tree limbs encroaching on the cycle way, gum nuts and other litter on the path so they are unusable for cyclists. Any wonder that the cyclists use the road?

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

So what's the thing that makes Australians so ignorant compared to their Danish cousins? Lack of education? Too much sun on the brain? We could do some important research, say send a bunch of Aussies and a bunch of Danes on holiday to Bali and see who ****es off the locals most.

Spot on! Clinical tests have proven that riding regular distances while clad in lycra improves your bedroom performance a hundred times better than daily doses of Viagra. RRROOOOAAAARRRRR!!!!
