The antagonism towards cyclists certainly seems far more pronounced here in Australia, when compared to the other countries where I have ridden my push hog. Its such a shame. Why can't we all get along.

It comes down to common courtesy to your fellow road users. The uncourteous road users are a minority - but seem to represent a larger cross section here in Australia. How much rarer it is in Australia to see people acknowledging your good deed when you let them out of a side road or through a gap. Do you ever see hazard lights flashing to warn road users behind of a hazard up ahead. So if this "dog eat dog" attitude towards each other exists on the roads, as it seems to (perpetrated by the minority), how can cyclists expect to be treated any differently?

However, I would argue cyclists should be treated differently and cut some slack - because they are so vulnerable. Its a life and death matter. Unfortunately, their are too many road users too consumed by their self-importance - making their precious time more valuable than anybody else's.

I'm rambling now - you get my drift.

Just a timely reminder why we motorists have to be aware of and avoid cyclists. Cyclists hurt in three separate incidents in Perth - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

I've never heard of a motorist needing to be extracted from their car after being hit by a cyclist.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

thats a choice. you can chose to travel on roads with a cage around you.
or you choose to take the risk.
applies to both push bikes and motorbikes.

Also in Australia there are numerous cases where motorists, despite wearing number plates, get away with illegal acts just because their numbers aren't recorded. Then there are plenty of cases where police are given clear evidence of illegal driving with clear identification and they do nothing about it. Sometimes even police have to throw out a fine or two because of inaccuracies in the data they collect. And sometimes cyclists get fed up with being treated as second class citizens and lash out. And lets not forget all those unregistered pedestrians creating mayhem merely by existing.

    Round and round we go.

This I believe is due to the pack cyclists.
These didn't exist 30 years ago and as I said before, I don't mind anyone riding to work. Rarely would you have caused an obstruction to cars.

Whereas the packs do and they couldn't give a ****.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

don't get me started on pedestrians!

I can't even have my 5 poster forward inclined bull catcher bar because of those damned pedestrians. Thank you Harold Scruby!

Ban those footpaths, if they weren't fitted to nearly every street in the city we could have more traffic lanes and more parking.

Just joking, have seen too many kids hit by cars, not a happy day for anyone.

As a kid we road all aboat in packs though mostly suburban streets . Never much more than a polite toot of a horn. Now I watch the morons blast about the area and wait to read of some poor kid getting splatted like a fly. These arent just P platers either, they probably rode as a youngster as well.

Another take on one of the Perth incidents.

Separate car versus cyclist crashes across Perth

    or

    http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/west...9e8aab94e6a28b

The driver went beserk and tried to kill the cyclist. That's just insane.
