i took no offense at what you said, just wanted to clear up the miss information about the cnet / download.com site.
like i said cnet is just a file warehouse, they dont alter 3rd party files at all .. and would have been sued out of existance years ago if they did.
any computing professional that suggests they do has been out in the sun to long.
i can not recall one recent virus or trojan that screws with your filesystem to the point that it creates that level of heartache.
running multiple realtime / background virus scanners and trojan blockers at once can cause that heartache though.
most so called spyware and trojan programs themselves are trojans that is why microsoft only recommend two, but then again microsoft recommend nortons and mcafee for virus prevention and they cause more harm on many systems than any virus can ... go figure... it's a real minefield ..... i agree.
