Thread: Running over children in 4x4's

In Melbourne (all of vic for that matter) school zones are 40 ks during morning and arvo time, even on 5 lanes (each way) hwys like Dandy rd which has two crossings and a walk over. The stupid thing is that in the centre strip which separates the 10 lanes I have seen trams flying past much faster than this.
All shoping strips are turning to 40 ks aswell.
I don't think this is a bad thing.
My uncle die as a result of standing in the middle of the road on a ****ty and dismal Melbourne winters night when a car got overtaken and he was struck. It was an accident and the poor person that killed him has to live with that for the rest of their life.
Education and supervision is the key.
To make 4x4 drivers get a different licence, as has been stated, is plain stupid when the fact is that anyone could die as a result of being hit by any mode of transport.
    First it was the bullbar.
    Now it's the whole vehicle.

Am I going to have to get a new 4x4 recreational licence and keep my 4x4 locked in a big safe when not in use?
They will tax us of the road if they get the chance.

    Running over children.

Reading that disgusting rag full of adverts the West Australian this morning, I saw that the WA4WD Association supports a special licence for the drivers of those vehicles!
What sort of lunatics are they who are supposedly representing us?
Why should we have to go through some stupid bureaucrap execise which will probably not save 1 life on the roads or near schools!
Why not push for an another licence for the drivers of tarted up delivery vans used to take the kids to school as the vision out of them is just as bad and they also obstruct other drivers vision?
Of course all the loonies like Harold Scruby and Grant Dorrington (Pedestrian Council WA) will only be happy when the little man with a red flag gets his job back.
A mate of mine retired as a Senior Inspector copper a few years ago and he reckoned the most dangerous driver on the roads was a woman taking her kids to school.
He said "They're always late and will run over other peoples kids to get theirs to school on time!"

Don't know about everybody being able to get a B-double moving. Throw most drivers into a vehicle with a road ranger and they'd go into a flat spin.

I drive trucks just about every day. Vision immediately behind you is woeful but through the use of mirrors you actually have a very good uderstanding on where the sides of the vehicle are and the front. Poor driving skills and an unwillingness to accept responsibility for our own actions is screwing everyone.

Look at public liability, common sense and just putting something into the '****-happens' file doesn't cut it for most dummies these days. "it must be your fault 'cause I'm so good."

I don't know why everybody keeps saying that you can't see out of a 4WD, our 2000 model Honda Civic has more blind spots than my Disco. :?

Good point....I guess I still have issues with why people can't use a RR...Spicers give me grief and I'll never master the old Thermodyne Joey Box 8O (Dad could shift one handed with the joey box on some of the shifts)

But generally, anyone with a modicum of skill with a crash box should get a truck moving...it may not be pretty, but it'd move!

But they still can't drive their cars properly, why the hell should they be allowed to own one!

Ray Martin used to drive a N!ssan Patrol. With a big chrome TJM Bullbar.

    Here are some numbers
    Channel 9 - 9906 9999
    Channel 7 - 9877 7777

They have to take viewer critisims and you just yell at the receptionist. They convey Viewer anger to the producers. The more people who call them the more sh!+ scared they get.
I've done it heaps, and they read the messages out to the crew sometimes.

I'm also going to email the original thread to the daily Telegraph. The Tele don't take critisism well. They probably wont print anything but you never know.

A bumper sticker might be the go.

This is the sort of thing that affects all 4x4 owners, see if we can post this on other forums and get all 4x4 owners with this bumper sticker.

Mate of mine is a safety officer on the railways and as such, he gets loads of stats for all sorts of things.

He was telling me that he looked up the stats for children killed by 4bys.

In the last 5 years ( and this figure might be wrong ) but something like 13 children have been killed by 4bys, of these only 2 ( this figure is right ) were killed on the road, all the rest were killed in their own driveway.

He’s going to see if he find out how many were killed by other vehicles.

Makes a mockery of the news reports.

It is stats like this if they can be confirmed that we as a community can fight back with. I'm pricing the cost of the bumper stickers this morning with Mrapocalypse's permission...it is after all, your intellectual property
