Having a fully catered lunch today courtesy of the Mechanics Wife who owns a catering business.

Work would never consider paying for something like this, so we look after ourselves.

Tomorrow's lunch is at a steak house in Williamstown payed for by a supplier.

Gota love the run up to Chrissy.

Bugger all work on too - Monday a bit, then that's it for the year.

Whatever it is, it'll be bitter and twisted, but delightful after dousing with red wine.

it only appears in one of the gospels and doesnt actually say how many.
we assume 3 gifts means 3 magi but some faiths have different numbers
Spot on. Only in Matthew 2. You a bit of a Bible student?

    Here's another one:

    Jesus was born in:

    A grotto or cave
    A stable building for animals
    Part of the innkeeper's house
    Don't know

    What do you think?

Which Jesus are you talking about? I think the Spaniard down the road was born in a hospital in Barcelona.

    Why is it important?

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

i wouldn't call myself a bible student.. know they enemy.....lol
im half way though, dont ruin the ending for me!

jesus birth isnt in all the gospels.
the two that it is in, one doesnt mention where the birth takes place
and the other gospel says where it isnt: "no room in the inn"
and inn could also be "guesthouse" depending on the greek translation.

one of the non-official gospels says the birth happened in a cave

also the story of them traveling back to Bethlehem for census cant be true as roman census didnt require people to go back to their birthplace.

the quran doesnt mention where the birth took place.

Yes, it's interesting how many myths there are.
Joseph and his family were refugees escaping Herod who wanted Jesus killed to prevent him becoming the focus of fulfilling the prophecy that a Messiah would come and free the Jews from the Roman rule. The Magii (wise men) had come seeking that Messiah, who they said had been born, so Herod was alarmed. Herod held power only with the support of Roman soldiers. Not long after Jesus' death the Jewish-Roman wars did break out, Jerusaleum was besieged and destroyed and the Zealots barricaded themselves in the fortress of Masada, where they eventually were massacred by the Romans. Josephus estimated about a million Jews died in the wars.
Joseph was a direct descendant of King David, so it would have been unthinkable to refuse refuge to such a distinguished Jewish family. Homes at that time usually had a living area, one or more bedrooms and a downstairs stable where the animals were brought in at night, to be turned out at dawn and the stable was cleaned to prevent disease. The innkeeper's guest rooms were full, so it appears Jospeh and his family were offered the downstrairs stable.
So, the Christmas depictions of the family of Jesus gathered in a separate stable building where three wise men bring them gifts are not Biblical.

    lots of those things occur.
the end of december is when he was born cause the early christians integrated with the greco-roman festivals, in this case, saturnalia, festival for the god saturn.

    http://www.comereason.org/roman-census.asp

For more on the census issue this seems a good summary. Augustus ordered at least three censuses during his reign. There were also events in towns in which the people were registered and ordered to swear allegience to Caesar, although this wasn't actually called a census. In some cases people did have to go to their birthplace for a census.
