It's The Navigator's birthday this week, so I though I'd ask what she would like as a present, expecting some girly reply about flowers, perfume, a massage or chocolates.
"I would like a battery-powered drill," she said.
A bit surprised, I replied: "Are you sure? Doesn't seem very romantic to me."
"That's what I want," she said.
So, who am I to argue? I put the word around in the family and we got her a flash Ryobi in a kit. When she opened the box on Sunday she was as happy as a pig in mud. She stuck the batteries on to charge and she's planning a trip to Bunnings to investigate what accessories she can buy to use with her drill.
So, you never should make sexist assumptions.
Incidentally, she is still dropping hints about also wanting flowers.
