Fault lines are fractal. There is no such thing as a typical sized fault. There is no such thing as a region 100% free of fault lines. Some major fault lines are well known, some, especially deep ones, only show up in rare seismic events. Clearly there are all sizes of faults from intercontinental boundaries to a cracked slate paver.
yes but cracked slate pavers dont cause M5 earthquakes.
just like the adelaide hills faultline doesnt cause M8 earthquakes, the tectonics just arnt there.
