I have only taken uber rides a couple of times in the past year and the quality of the nut behind the wheel left me in fear of my life on each ride.
You compare autonomous vehicle negatively with the "average human". The skill/attitude of few uber drivers I have experienced take that kind of comparison to a whole new low!

Presumably many of you blokes often look for some eye contact, or other indication (hand gesture), to ensure that another driver has seen you and has some level of understanding of what you are about to do in traffic. I know I certainly do... in many different kinds of road situations.
How do you get a nod, wave, eye contact confirmation of a safe move - from an autonomous vehicle?

Not in Australia or NZ. No doubt there are poor taxi drivers around, even in ANZ, however - I do a lot of fly in/out business travel in ANZ and reckon my taxi/uber ratio is 100/2 in the past year. Thats 100 good rides to 2 scary as ****!
I'll stick to taxis or self drive rentals. Thanks.

These two quotes say it all:
“The car's key features include inbuilt sensors to detect and avoid hazards such as pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles.” Why is it that pedestrians and cyclists are seen as ‘hazards’ - when in fact it is the cars that are the hazard. ...human-like thinking indeed 😳
“They (autonomous cars) don't think in terms of people versus dogs versus light posts, he pointed out. They think in terms of high value or low value”. ...Which obstacle’is of ‘low value’?? 😳 ....the poor person with less insurance as evidenced by their microchip? the old person? The pet dog, ...or the material object? I can’t see cars crashing into each other to avoid a ‘low value’ human that’s for sure! Especially if they really are autonomous!
