Touching story but I don't think that's the answer.
You have to know the back story. It is quite complex but I get your point.
That is the thing, though. Justice. Is it about rehabilitation or retribution?

I was in New York, just before the Twin Towers event.
When We arrived, having heard many things about New York's "crime", I asked where it was not safe. They said that We could virtually go anywhere we liked, except walk through Central Park in the dark.
The reason for this, we were told, was Mayor Guiliani, who'd been in power for a few years when we got there?....His motto,.."Ya do the crime, ya do the time",....the result of which was a SIXTY % drop in the crime rate. We walked all over the place, Police everywhere,...we never had any issues at all.
So, I'm sick of all the "rehab, don't put 'em in jail, let 'em out" stuff, absolutely sick of it. All this rubbish Rosie Battye comes out with,...AIN'T GONNA MEAN NOTHING to the drunken man belting his wife & family,..He won't even think about what she's got to say, BUT,..put him in jail with the "Big Boys", who don't like Women bashers, & see if He does it again.
This is why violence is on the increase,....."IF" they're caught, what will the sentance be?

"Sad"?.....Nope, I ain't sad, I've never hit a woman in my life,....and I never will, and I deplore any kind of violence,....ANY KIND.
I stand by what I said. What is needed is a PROPER DETERRANT,....how many of these wifebashing scum are repeat offenders,...been to court squillions of times,..CBOs, priors, weak judges, etc etc etc.....NEVER been inside, so they're still walking around doing this stuff.
Jeez, how many times d'ya have to read, when a murder's committed, the guys had HEAPS of priors, was out on bail (never should've been, but was!!)etc etc etc.
So, if you say I'm sad, YES, I'll wear that, but I say, "LOCK 'EM UP".

I'm with you mate. I grew up in a house where mum copped a regular belting from dad. It ain't fun as a kid watching this stuff I can tell you. AND, I also have never hit a woman, I swore an oath to myself when I was a kid.

    Blame the courts.
Sending people to jail for actual minor offenders, clogging the system and prisons which means the people who really should be there aren't.

In Jails, there are as many victims as there are perpetrators. Take the victims out, rehabilitate them, give them a kick start, and replace them with the true recalcitrants such as Pickles's examples.
The purpose of our Legal/Justice system os to make our Society a better place for all to live in. If it is going to produce social outcasts withe no empathy for society then it is not fulfilling its function.
    Cheers, Billy.
    Keeping it simple is complicated.

Why blame the courts and police? Blame the parents that do not discipline their children, that do not teach them manners, that do not teach them responsibility.

Yes, put them in jail then. Then what do they do when they get out? The same thing as they don't know how to (or in same cases cannot) change.

Most of them get out of jail with 1 week social security (half payment) and are expected to get accommodation, clothes food etc. Bet nobody here could achieve that on 1 weeks newstart of whatever they call it now.

So what do they do? They go to their old mates place. Great environment to get a fresh start.

There is no one pattern fits all answer to this, there are obviously some people that should never see the light of day. But there are some other that can be turned around. So do we try and turn some around or do we just go on in an endless cycle of stupidity?

I wonder where the family is ............ If I found out anyone layed a finger on my family ..... It sure as **** would NEVER happen again. Who needs police My sister inlaw has a really funny little tubby father, one of the nicest poeple you'll meet .... Well one of the boyfriends bashed one of his daughters... The guy did an instant runner ... That funny little father was there within seconds of finding out with his rifle searching the house for him. I have no doubt he would have shot the guy, walked straight into the police station and said "it was me I did it". The boyfriend was obviously of the same opinion.

Some crimes are easy to fix. Pedophiles for example. They should all be immediately thrown into general population. Those guys have kids at home .... The problem fixes itself pretty quickly.
