You're getting old and cantankerous.
I remember that stage of life well.![]()
Yesterday Heather and I went out to buy a tv cabinet, the sales person wanted my name, address and mobile number and email address.
I didn't give him ,my phone number or email address as far as I'm concerned he had no need for it and I do not want to be spammed .
Today we went back to the same store and bought a sofa, it was cash and carry, I had the trailer with me.
The salesperson asked if we had bought from the store before and typed in my name and noticed that my phone number and email address was not entered and I said he didn't need that information. He then got a little cocky and started to feed me some bull about it is needed for warranty purposes.
I again told him I did not wish to provide this info for privacy reasons, but he went on and on.
They give you a warranty card and attach a purchase receipt to it, it had my name and address on it, so as far as I'm concerned I have proof of purchase. I have spent years getting rid of unwanted spam and having my personal details passed on to other organisations.
I could of just fed him a bogus phone number and email address, but no bugger him.
You're getting old and cantankerous.

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
The Mrs just "fought a battle" with Kellogs who are/were giving away free movies. They said they needed her credit card details. She said nope and whizzed off a few emails. Eventually someone phoned her from the states to apologise and send her a $10 gift voucher. I had a not dissimilar experience in a shop when I bought a laptop. The SA said if I wanted extended warranty I had to sign up for it there and then , I said I'd like to take the pds home and read it at my leisure - SA said no. I said No.
cheers,

Seems every one wants to know everyone's business when you buy something these days.
If you make a cash purchase, you hand over the money and you should get the goods in return. There is no need to provide all your personal details to the seller, people hand over far too much of their personal info too freely and then when it back fires they are the first to cry victim.
Someone who bought from Ikea did. They gave Ikea mine.
After numerous "Opting Out" on the emails (with no effect), I managed to hack the customers account and changed all the details. That stopped the emails for a while, then they started again. I hacked the account again and changed the settings and ordered stuff.
The emails have now stopped and I can no longer hack the account.
I wish I could do that hacking stuff. Sounds like fun.![]()
Cheers, Billy.
Keeping it simple is complicated.
In my younger days I was a P.I, and you'd be surprised what you can find out about people when they are a sleep and you remove the contents of their rubbish bins and take them away for examination.
We could find out a lot of personal info from the garbage as people throw out all sort of sensitive info out. We used to use that as a pretext for further investigations. We posed as various organisations to exact info from the subjects. Either with bogus id for door knocking or telephone calls. We knew where they did there grocery shopping, what bills they had to pay, etc etc.
No days is even easier with Cyber, as people put everything out there.
So I like to protect my privacy, people are too free to give out information or expose their whole life on facebook etc , and then become victims of scammers.
Tell them nothing and lead them no where I reckon.![]()
As part of my work I attend trade shows as well in my leisure time I like to go to exhibitions like the Boat Show and Shot Show and to buy or get on-line tickets you need to put in your e-mail address.
Every day at work and at home I now have to wade through ads, promo material and offers from all sorts of odds and sods. I have tried to "Unsubscribe' to many of these and this is a process of frustration in itself.
Many of these send you to other sites or ask you fill out a short survey on why you want to opt out of something you really didn't want to be a part of in the first place.
On one that no matter what I did would not opt me out I got a bit ****ty and tracked down some bloke via phone after getting transferred a few times and I told him I did not want to get anymore e-mails from him. He again did the sales pitch and it was only when I got very ****ty and suggested where I may wish to insert a size 12 Blundstone (unpolished) that he relented and de-listed me.
These are the ones that are running a business for profit. I hate to think what others with more nefarious intentions are doing with our information
