I remember that stage of life well.

The Mrs just "fought a battle" with Kellogs who are/were giving away free movies. They said they needed her credit card details. She said nope and whizzed off a few emails. Eventually someone phoned her from the states to apologise and send her a $10 gift voucher. I had a not dissimilar experience in a shop when I bought a laptop. The SA said if I wanted extended warranty I had to sign up for it there and then , I said I'd like to take the pds home and read it at my leisure - SA said no. I said No.

Seems every one wants to know everyone's business when you buy something these days.
If you make a cash purchase, you hand over the money and you should get the goods in return. There is no need to provide all your personal details to the seller, people hand over far too much of their personal info too freely and then when it back fires they are the first to cry victim.

Someone who bought from Ikea did. They gave Ikea mine.
After numerous "Opting Out" on the emails (with no effect), I managed to hack the customers account and changed all the details. That stopped the emails for a while, then they started again. I hacked the account again and changed the settings and ordered stuff.
The emails have now stopped and I can no longer hack the account.

I wish I could do that hacking stuff. Sounds like fun.

In my younger days I was a P.I, and you'd be surprised what you can find out about people when they are a sleep and you remove the contents of their rubbish bins and take them away for examination.
We could find out a lot of personal info from the garbage as people throw out all sort of sensitive info out. We used to use that as a pretext for further investigations. We posed as various organisations to exact info from the subjects. Either with bogus id for door knocking or telephone calls. We knew where they did there grocery shopping, what bills they had to pay, etc etc.
No days is even easier with Cyber, as people put everything out there.
So I like to protect my privacy, people are too free to give out information or expose their whole life on facebook etc , and then become victims of scammers.
Tell them nothing and lead them no where I reckon.

No wonder the cops are always at my neighbour's house.
