People aren't arrested at McDonalds if they super-size their coke and chips, when they know they really should be ordering a Kale shake and some Quinoa salad.

They pro'ly do need "mollycoddling" but at a much younger age, a project has been done in NZ called the Dunedin Project (Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study - Wikipedia) which has followed people for 40+ years and it shows that criminal behaviour can be predicted in childhood. If more money was spent on childhood intervention, less money could be spent on prisons eventually, and save victims and perpetrators a lot of suffering.
Repeat offender here's an idea:rocket: reoffending over permanently
Trout it doesn't matter how many times you say enough already people who have half an idea what they are doing will, thankfully, continue to look for answers a little less simplistic than your solution.
A 10 year old needs mentoring to know what behavior is moral and what is unacceptable.
Exactly.
For sure, prison is a place no-one in their right mind would want to be, I get that.
However, I DO know someone who is involved in the prison system very well, on a daily basis.
Prison should be a place of deterrent, where ya don't wanna go, but for many it isn't, it simply isn't,...their own rooms, tv, computer, choice of meals, etc etc etc,......IMHO prison should be a place where ya REALLY don't wanna go. That is not the case for crims at the moment,......it's actually a bit of a holiday for many of them.
In fact, if one was a homeless person, Ya'd do well to commit some sort of crime to get yaself inside, çause it'd be a squillion times better than living on the streets,......but, and here is the difference, it shouldn't be.
Pickles.
Sounds like they should save the prison places for some people who really need them, like a lot of the old folks in nursing homes, they seem to be badly treated according to the stories that are coming out.
As long as their solutions don't impact the rest of us then I am all for it But this leniency given by the courts and the amount of reoffenders after receiving this leniency obviously isn't working.
Certainly removing the kids from ****ty households Before they are ruined for life would work But be VERY careful with this idea especially with Aboriginal kids because this would create an absolute ****storm.
Like you say there are people with half an idea looking for answers and therein lies the problem, They only have HALF an idea.
Criminality has been a social problem for millennia and despite the efforts of various peoples from the different ages and civilisations trying to combat this behaviour NOTHING has proven to work So what makes these people with HALF an idea think that they have the "Miracle" cure.
Unfortunately criminality is part of the Human nature as is our thirst for War, Greed and Violence.
The quest for finding a cure for criminal behaviour is akin to the search for a perpetual motion machine, In theory it could work but building the machine is a completely different matter.
Yep it's not easy. Cheers
Well maybe if they bought back some discipline in schools again, instead of the stupid left wing politically correct crap they teach now,, the kids might have a better chance of starting out a bit better.
This crap where every kid gets a medal teach's no one any sense of pride etc, no reason to try at anything. It doesn't help when teachers are shown no respect at all,,, by themselves either. The way they present themselves, let kids call them by first name,, trying to be "buddies" with them,, be part of the gang, so to speak. The teachers should start the ball rolling by stepping up to the plate and take more responsibility. They ultimately have more influence on how our kids are bought up than we ourselves do.
If our system stopped being so pussy footed at the start of the kids life,, ie, put some real discipline in at the start, instead of the "ohh poor boy,, whats wrong?" crap, we'll then start to see some gains.
At some point, someone,, everybody, has to show responsibility for their own actions.
