    Assaults are up.

Armed robbery is down because of the great reduction in the use of cash. The professional heist men can't be bothered nowadays because they don't get enough from a suburban bank branch to be bothered. My local bank branch requires at least 24 hours notice if you need more than $4,000 cash. Security provisions on armoured cars now make them an extremely difficult target for even the most professional of armed robbers. Even a Coles gas station has a safe with time locks and only a bit of change in the till. Druggies stick up corner stores and gas stations for a few hundred for their next hit. Judging by the numbers in this locality that have been burgled I would say break, enter, and steal is on the rise. Druggies again. My idea of controlling the drug scourge is that if you commit a crime whilst prohibited substances are on your person or premises or in your system then you get 5 years without parole in a strict regime penitentiary for the drugs plus a consecutive sentence for the crimes you committed. Persons caught in a random roadside test with prohibited substances likewise should get a felony conviction and a minimum 6 months first offence in a penitentiary. No first offender leniency, no suspended sentence, no community service order. Go to gaol, go directly to gaol. Automatic loss of any drivers or other licences for 5 years after release.

Where are updated stats that show differently. Richard Glover the author of the new book Land Before Avocados researched this point and also said that Murder was still down and armed robberies way down. Trout you are old enough to remember. You will recall that sawn off shotties and stockings were being used all over the place. These days it's rare to hear of an armed robbery especially a robbery with guns....come on mate.

Yep lock them all up when they use drugs...sure works in the US....they lock up with alarming ease. Doesnt work there, won't work here. Thankfully people who spend their life dealing with such people are introducing new programs to assist break the cycle and not recommending mandatory sentencing.

I don't make the figures. Those are the official figures. I suggest you search the murder rate.

    But it does work there.
I haven't got recent figures, but when I retired, We went on a trip, and one of the places e visited was New York, and yes, this was in 2001,
Anyway, hearing what we'd heard about New York, we asked where we could safely go. The answer from virtually everyone was, "Sinse Mayor Guilliani has been in control, his motto has been "You do the crime, you do the time", so He did crack down. big time, & we were told that the crime rate had dropped dramatically. They said "you can go anywhere, but we wouldn't advise walking through Central Park at night". We encountered many many Police on the ground, "on the beat",...very friendly too, particularly when they knew we were Aussies. We walked everywhere, never had a problem,..anywhere.
So, in this case, a crack down did work. Maybe someone on here's experienced N.Y. lately, or knows what the Mayor did, and no I do not admire U.S. Gun Laws. (only said that in case someone bought it up)

    .....

There will be criminals among us and every city will have a place where the scumbags hang out....

Maybe move to a better part of town?

Only north Korea can be crime free.
And yes they lock up and kill criminals. And also tourur the immigrants before deport them back to their country

    Cheers
