No I don't think that innocents should be executed and Yes I was being provocative, However I also believe that truly Evil people should be treated like mad dogs and dispatched accordingly.
It saddens me when people like the cretin that ran down all those people in Melbourne and killed a child and 3 other people in front of hundreds of witnesses and was caught red handed is still breathing
Surely in cases like this and many others where there is 110% chance of getting it right without ANY chance of an innocent being punished the death penalty should apply.

The media and priests like to think they have some form of immunity but they dont (thankfully). Speaking more generally the notion that we should all be told about things that are deemed secret by the instruments of our Governments (ie the people we put into power to make such decisions about classification...and in turn their picks for leaders of the arms of the ADF) to then decide (by what...public polling...?) what should secret and what shouldnt be (ie when it is too late to put the secret genie back in the bottle) is the dangerous concept...not the raid to enforce existing laws about secret materials.

    Cheers

PS. The "assault on the media" must have been horrific. Wasnt the ABC Board having McDonalds around the board table whilst this was going on? I thought I saw that on the news this morning

bingo. being a journalist doesnt give you a free pass to break the law. holding classified material is a crime and those responsible (as well as those who leaked it) should be held accountable and punished.

I understood his thoughts (and I agree) - didn't need amplification or emoticons - was pretty clear.

We all have different views and different backgrounds informing those views. It's good to have some robust conversations about these things. There will be plenty of people who dont agree with me on the 2 topics noted above and I always welcome the debate. It's healthy. My mind is open even with my opinion.

    Cheers

I'd rather see a guilty person get off than see an innocent person convicted.

And of course that is the basis of the "beyond reasonable doubt" test in criminal cases.

Yep and of course no sane person with an interest in justice wants to see a guilty person found not guilty but the contrary is so much worse.

i wasnt going to reply further but it's nagging me, so come what may.....

untrue up until very recently Eevo

what you state above is what they want you to think is the point, while our rights are further whittled away

what they did yesterday at the abc and the day previous with a newscorp journalist was the first use of new laws passed by parliament in very recent times.

they said they needed the laws to go after terrorists

all parties were warned that the laws were much too far reaching and would affect a free press

those parties disagreed and walah, here we are now...

first use is against the press, reporters at newcorp and the abc, strange bed fellows indeed it has to be said and the subjects not terrorist related

they have never had the power to reach as far down the throats of those that hold those in power to account for their actions.

up till now there was a "Public Interest" test / defense applied to these sorts of activities by journalists and whistle blowers.

that is no longer the case as the offences have been moved to the criminal law acts so the "Public Interest" defense no longer exists

imho a crime is a crime is a crime, "everyone" should be held to account, if they commit one.

and under the new laws, they are no longer held responsible for criminal acts if working for the government of the day

stifling any legal way of holding those that commit crimes, at any level, to account, that diminishes our rights and in the end, our quality of life.

the AFP have revised their own statements on these raids 3 times already and that in itself should be ringing alarm bells

and thus, those with an agenda win another chunk......

    society is further polarised

am i over reacting, i don't think so...
