And the dealer was always happy to upsell, and availability of special jobs was nowhere near as controlled as it is today, especially if the dealer (or customer) had a friend in head office.

IIRC the EH utes and vans were available with the Special trim. The EH marked the beginning of the era of options and (albeit very limited by today's standards) custom builds. Up to the EJ apart from the standardised three trim levels offered, personisation was limited to Nasco, bolt on accessories, such as sunvisors, weathershields, wheel trims, tow bars, bonnet ornaments et al. There was even a 12V electric shaver offered by Nasco.

My first work vehicle,a hand me down Belmont HQ,173,3 on the tree, had the factory option, front disc brakes, and chrome tie down rails along both sides of the tub, which were very handy.

And the addition of many scratches, small dents, rusty tailgate, and a huge number of K's on the speedo, but it went and never let me down.
Had the speedo with both K's and Miles an hour,OD was in K's.

Bench seat was great at the drive in.

I'm sure all your intentions were honourable.

I know, Ian, but thought the Venetian worth a mention. My first job post school was fitting some of them, although that was HG. Nasco hadn't changed much. Neither had Holden, for that matter.
