    By the way Thomas - once on sand lock the CDL. Don't think "it will be fine". It's not a diff lock, it's a centre diff lock and they don't like the loads offroad unlocked...

    If it's a loose surface - lock it... you'll appreciate not breaking the CDL by not locking it, and the vehicle will perform better.
    I take it the same goes for any vehicle with CDL?like my D2? Engage CDL in soft sand every time even if it seems to go OK disengaged?

    Yep.. unless it's as hard a a sealed road..

    Or as Pedro eluded to, if you need a tight turn to manoeuvre out you can disengage to do the turn...

    Locked is much more balanced on loose tracks at speed as well..
