    A proverb ....

    "Live and Let Live".

A proverb meaning you should tolerate the opinions and behaviour of others so that they will similarly tolerate your own.

Is that what this is all about? If so, what is the confusion?

So in theory, irrespective of whether the national vote is "yes" or "no" the parliamentary vote can be different.

Hence why only a Parliamentary vote if there is a "yes" vote and not a "no" vote?

The reason is it only needs to go to parliment if we want to change the present law. But then it still may not get changed anyway. Which makes it a money wasting survey that could have been avoided and the vote gone straight to parliament.

Now that the precedent of governing by optional non-binding opinion polls, are we going to use the process for other legislation? Or is it just another way to beat up on gays and lesbians?

Perhaps we could do away with politicians altogether and have run government by the ABS and facebook.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Interestingly, a friend of mine who was abroad was able to cast her 'vote' electronically. So why couldn't everyone? And if people weren't able or willing to do that then a paper form could be made available at post offices. Would've saved a hell of a lot of money!

Posted this in the Walrus, but it belongs here. Sorry about that. This is the song a former Politician does not want sung at the NRL grand final. Give it a good listen to, and form an opinion.
