Jan and I had some favourite films. I watch them from time to time.
I have just watched 'The Shipping News' again. Dame Judy Dench put in a fine performance, as did Peter Posthelwaite. Cate Blanchette was extraordinary, and I am not a fan.
The guy who stole it was Kevin Spacey.
My question is, do I judge him on his performance, or his alleged character?
Is it not OK to judge him on what he could do?
I think Hollywood will rue, for decades, the stance they have taken in recent times. I certainly hope so.

If the performance was good prior to the knowledge of unsavoury behaviours I see no need to ditch the movie from your library. I have a few music recordings I really like , but have been told that the artists are seriously lacking in morals. Since I have never met them or been affected , I prefer to enjoy the music instead

I don't really follow much of what goes on in the "entertainment news " , but unless these people have been found guilty of their actions in a court of law , aren't we just adding to the trial by media hype that juggernauts these things.
Sadly it wont matter now whether they are guilty or not , the media has succeeded in making them basically unemployable.
I have had some dealing with the media , and on more than 1 occasion have been told by a reporter "if I don't tell them the story , they will make it up and worse case they will issue an apology , long after the story has died away".
When they are found guilty in a court and hopefully punished accordingly for their actions , then judge them and decide if you wish to remove them from your collection.

Do you enquire into the criminal or moral history of all the people on the assembly line who built your Land Rover? No, me neither. Their job was to make a product which I choose on it's merits, not on what sort of person built it. Music, films, all products.
Lots of stuff out on the interwebs highlighting how the #me too bandwagon has been hijacked by the feminist movement and it is turning into an unmitigated disaster, not only for any accused men, but for women later down the track. Trial by social media at its worst and the train wreck is continuing.
I abhor men and women who use their power to coerce others, but if you really are a victim, press charges. It’s the only way, as it will punish the guilty and also discourage whimsical accusations. I really don’t think accusing someone of making you feel uneasy is a crime, especially if you are a special snowflake who is offended by virtually everything - even by men sitting with their legs spread slightly on a bus reading a newspaper. Apparently that is called manspreading and is considered a horrible offence in certain circles. Go figure....
The knock-on effect from this lunacy will be women being disadvantaged in the workplace where men won’t want to work with them for fear of some perceived slight which can ruin their career. I have several mates who are either university lecturers or board executives who have instituted a strict ‘door is always open and cameras are rolling’ policy whenever someone enter their offices. In the last year two have been accused of sexual harassment and both were about to be sacked based on the story of their accusers. Luckily the video and audio footage exonerated my mates, and hugely embarrassed not only the accusers, but the militant bureaucratic asswipes who were so gung-ho to crucify anyone doing wrongspeak.
Welcome to the new cultural landscape ladies and gentlemen. Makes me glad I’m self employed!
PS I will still be watching Kevin Spacey movies. Lots of people are ugly in real life compared to their public persona. Accept the craft for what it is.

I hope those who trashed someone's reputation, and future earnings, by applying "guilty until proven innocent" and "trial by media" pay dearly.
I hope Mr Rush hurts a few gossip newspapers too.

I hope the news media are badly burned over this.
