Things are moving fast, Theres a new Lithium Graphite super capacitor battery tech been announced, 1,000,000 cycles with no degradation and can be discharged / charged 100%
Current LiFePo4 technology cells have 3000 cycles but if discharged below 2.4Volts it kills the cell . 80% depth of charge / dischcharge is recommended safe amount..

look at the revolution things we use now. internet, mobiles, pizza delivery. they all took a long time to be dominant.

The biggest load requirement for haul trucks is going up the ramps, theres already places that utilise "trolley assist" for the ramps - truck hooks up to overhead powerlines and runs from a baseload power source for the ramp - gives full power to the wheel motors and the diesel basically idles up the ramp, so the engine lasts a little longer and uses less diesel. Can also be used on the way down the ramp with dynamic brakes and throw power back into the grid.Quote:

No reason you couldnt replace the diesel with a large battery bank to do the run to the digger and crusher and the high load run up the ramp can be handled by the baseload power ( the mine I work at is gas turbines)
