Nah. For crabs you want to steam them then have a sauce made of soy sauce, olive oil, ginger and shallots.

I got one when on the south coast. The nurse squirted it with Start ya Bastard the pulled the bugger out. Apparently it has ether in it so it sends them to sleep. She said it was the only one that has ether in it

That's a really good trick to remember! Most starter fluids have ether, maybe aerostart dosnt but I know repco and sca brands have it.

As a keen bushwalker, I've seen and been bitten by a few. I believe this is by far the best advice:

Yes, ether-based sprays, as already mentioned.
If at first you don't succeed, that's one data point. - xkcd

Hmm, I doubt very much it "put it sleep". It is more likely the propellant froze the thing. Dimethyl ether
(DME) is used as a propellant, and also Co2, but in either case it will tend to freeze on expansion into the atmosphere, just like a refrigerant.

    DEET!

We used Bushmans with DEET in it. We found it worked very well as a repellent on our last trip to the NSW South Coast after being inundated the first few days. We also found a spray onto one that has started to burrow in worked after a few seconds.

Definitely don't squeeze. I'm interested to try the Freeze method next time though.

I've read that DEET will only work in the area it has been sprayed onto, so coverage is important. The percentage of DEET determines the time it will last on your skin.
