You need to find whether the 2.8 is adr30/01 compliant. That is all.
Had to go through this with my 4bd1 in my 94 rangie

Hi Vern, is there a way to find out without actually doing the test? I’ve been quoted $940 for the necessary tests that the engineer wants to see to make sure it complies, would obviously like to avoid that if possible

I don't know, unless you can find a pic of the engine with the sticker on it. Thats what i did, a member from on here sent me a pic of his 4bd1 with the adr30 compliance sticker on the rocker cover.
Pity Jase isn't still on here, he used to import the 2.8

The 2.8 wasnt sold here in a vehicle so no chance of finding an ADR sticker on one.

A quick google found the Brazilian emissions standards were Euro 2 in 2002.

    • PROCONVE L-3 emission regulations were adopted in 1993 [2616] with implementation from 1997 to 2004. The L-3 limits were based on Euro 2 standards.
    • PROCONVE L-4 and L-5 emission standards were adopted in 2002 [2617] with implementation dates over 2006-2009. The L-4/L-5 standards were based on Euro 3/4, respectively. Because 50 ppm sulfur diesel fuel was not available by 2009, the L-4 phase remained in effect for diesel vehicles until the end of 2012.
