It's been done to death already... but... definitely keep the 032av. No contest.
I got a hand-me-down 032av-eq a year ago from my FIL. I already had a 'modern' MS230 bought new over a decade ago (when finding that coin was not easy at all) and it's been great. But I'd keep the thirty-plus year old one in a heartbeat over it. First thing I did was full service and clean, new 20" bar and chain, new dampers, etc. on the old girl. My FIL thought I'd gone a bit mad throwing money and time at it. But good investments are like that, though I'll have it til I cark it and then my son can have it (if they're still legal...)

A defender owner decides he is going to buy a chainsaw to cut down some trees in his back yard.


He goes to a local store asks about the various saws. The dealer tells him, “I have a lot of models of chainsaws, but why don’t you save yourself a lot of time and aggravation and get the top-of-the-line model? This chainsaw will cut a hundred cords of wood for you in one day.”


So, the man takes the chainsaw home and begins working on the trees. After cutting for several hours and only cutting two cords, he decides to quit, thinking there is something wrong with the chainsaw. “How can I cut for hours and only cut two cords?” the man asks himself.


The next day, the man gets up at 4:00 a.m. and cuts and cuts, and cuts till nightfall, and still he only manages to cut five cords. Since the dealer told him he could cut a hundred cords of wood a day, the man is convinced he bought a defective saw.


So, the next day, he heads back into town and goes to the chainsaw store. He tells the dealer what’s happened.


The dealer, baffled by the man’s problem, removes the chainsaw from the case. He inspects it carefully, turning it back and forth and looking at it closely. He checks the tension on the chain and then makes sure the teeth on the chain are sharp. “Hmm, it looks okay,” he tells the man.


Then the dealer starts the chainsaw. The man is obviously startled. His eyes get very wide, and he shouts over the sound of the saw, “What the hell is that noise?”

Ha, good story.
Funnily, I was given an electric carving knife. "It's useless.", I was told. I took it out of the box and tested it to see what was wrong with it.
I was questioned, "Why are you using the spare blade?"
True story. They live amongst us.

Electric knives are good for cutting foam into shapes.

On another note, i used to use a stihl 090 im 1980 for cutting up wood slabs at the manjimup wood chip mill. Bloody heavy saw but would cut anything all day long.

Totally agree. I have my dad's old 08S. I will never part with it. Made in West Germany it states proudly. Can't take it onto a worksite, as it has no chain brake, but it is a fantastic saw. Doesn't rev like the later models, but it was dad's. Nuff said.

BTW, those Milwaukee saws are awesome. Same could be said for all their cordless stuff. The 18V Fuel 3/4 drive rattle gun is probably the best $700 I ever spent. You will want to get more tools to utilise the battery.
