    You get a 15 amp charging point for your residence as part of the purchase deal, but they can recharge at any power point, it just takes longer.

    I see Tesla says it's electric truck the Semi can do 800kms fully loaded at 100 km/h so that's good. Tesla already has more than 2000 pre-orders for its truck at $US180,000 and Musk says the fuel savings should recover the cost in about two years.

    Companies could make this work here. For example, Lindsay has a Coffs Harbour depot, halfway between Sydney and Brisbane, so loads could be changed there to fresh prime movers and carry on.

    And the auto pilot can link a convoy of trucks with just one driver in the front truck. That should work fine on the Pacific Highway when it is all motorway.

    This could work very well.

    Many EVs can recharge to 80% in an hour, particularly on a 15amp or larger charging point, or a bit longer on a normal power point. It's the last 20% that takes longer, as anyone who has used a multi-stage battery charger knows. For example my Projecta charges at 2amps to 80% and then reduces to 1.5, 1.0 and 0.5 amps as it moves towards 100%.
    As for long distance trucks, as you say they could just have depots and swap prime movers. Another option is slide out battery modules. Flat battery pack out, charged one in and away goes the truck. Mining trucks have power train modules, so battery modules are possible.
    One thing is for sure, as others have said, it's inevitable now, just a matter of time.
    Unlike Lead Acid, Lithiums don't suffer that problem. They charge as fast as you pump the current in and don't slow down they have negligible current taper.

    New EV's usually don't use LiFePO4 any more, use LiMnCo instead. CC/CV charging tapers off quickly at around 80% capacity. Fast chargers work best from around 30% to 70% charge level, get slower from that level on.

    Also, the acceleration of these Ev's,including trucks is amazing.

    The next generation of young ones,and us older ones, will quickly get frustrated being stuck behind a dinosaur whatever vehicle,old school petrol/diesel thing.

    Servicing costs for these Ev's should also be a lot less than ICE i presume,even taking into account battery deterioration and replacements.

    Yes, servicing should just be fluids and brakes and an electronics update, I think.

    Hardly Even Brakes, Pads & Rotors might last the lifetime of the vehicle thanks to Regenerative Braking , The friction brakes are only used to come to a complete stop from about 5kmh & as a handbrake. So Tyres & wipers basically . The Automotive service industry will be severely impacted & is why EV's are not being actively sold as Dealers are doing them selves out of their Servicing & Repair profit margin.

    In a LR context you would need four motors to not hammer the brake pads with torque vectoring. Even on a EV you will need to do brake pads and rotors at some point.

    Motors will most likely have gearsets with oil change intervals, disregarding sealed for life promises. Drive shaft spline wear, etc.

    You have all the suspension components/bushes, as usual.

    Coolant system is still there and hvac system, both with same maintanence requirements.

    But yeah, all that engine maintenance, and the belt driven ancillary issues will be gone. Service intervals will be years apart, especially with smaller distances covered. The lithium EVs coming will have around 400km range, and most will be urban commutes racking up around 5000km a year.

    All the urbanites will want one!

    Timing couldn't be better, car ownership is at saturation point, and many people do not want/need to buy new cars - but EVs , we all need one of those! Pay the mining companies and fire up the factories boys, its time to save the environment!
