I have a bottle of cask strength single cask from one of the first runs from the Arran distillery (friends dad was the original cooper there when they kicked off, and not being able to afford to pay him monetarily, he was rewarded in hogsheads). I'm waiting for a special occasion to open it. I was given a little 50cl sample a few years ago and it was "pretty good".

You can see the island from my inlaws front window. I brought back a 21 year old cask strength when I last went, but the damn stuff evaporates too quickly once the seal is broken.

For something completely different, Ord river rum is nice too.

I'm not opening it for about 4 1/2 years, but if you happen to be here sometime after then you can join me.
If you happen to be this way prior to that, I have another nice Arran malt.

Thought I’d drag out a few bottles tonight……

Main reason was to crack the Nonesuch (1st Aussie whisky and now know you pay a hefty price) and Glenfiddich.

The wife and I decided to rank them……..

We had 1/2 nip ish of each 1/4 nip neat than added a small shard of ice and waited for it to melt…..we had similar thoughts on how the ice/water change the experience……

My rankings were
1. The Hakushu, got better
2. Nonesuch, bout the same, I grabbed a 2nd nip as a night cap…….
3. Glenfiddich, got better
4. Bunderberg Solera, no real change
5. The Glenlivet, got worse…neat only for the remainder of this bottle…..or maybe with a ginger based mixer

Surprisingly the wife has similar taste

1. The Hakushu
2. Nonesuch
3. Glenfiddich
didn’t rank the other two, but didn’t agree with not adding water to the Glenlivet. She also needs to have a second sip to ‘taste’ as she’s not quite used to neat

I know nothing about scotch and don't drink it .
But I worked for a company and you were sorted of obligated to buy the boss a christmas present., as he would give you a sizable cash bonus.
One year I bought him a bottle of Glenlivet, I had heard of Glenfiddich, but never Glenlivit.
.
Any I gave it to my boss and after christmas he paid out on me, he was mad and let me know it tio. e said he served it to his guests at christmas and it was disgusting and he was embarrassed serving this crap to his guests and called me a cheapskate etc .He went on and on for about a month about it.

Whisky is very subjective…..

What one person enjoys doesn’t mean the next will……

Oh and I’m a fan of drink it however you enjoy it……

The most expensive on the table tonight was ranked 2nd tonight…..might be last when we do it again with a few different bottle or….could be top of the pack.

I'm a bit late to this particular party but thought I'd add my vote for Arran.

Me and the Mrs spent a week on Arran and visited the Arran distillery not long after their first batch hit the 10year mark and bottles were on sale.

Also partial to the Tassie Lark and several Speysides - Macallan, Aberlour, Glen Moray.

Balvenie is also a good 'un.
I used to be really into the Islays, but must be getting soft in my old age because I find the smoky/peaty flavour too harsh these days.

It's an interesting topic... my son distills whiskey and whisky , 2 totally different drinks.

He has made Glenfiddich and I put a genuine Glenfiddich bottle alongside his at a barby one night and no one could tell the difference , some of the charletans who **** good whisky/eys with coke reckon they could.

I love the local Beenleigh rums and they have recently distilled a whisky that sold out before I got a chance to even buy it let alone taste it .....and it was bloody expensive.

Son has just made a Jack Daniels batch complete with genuine Jack Daniels barrel wood floating in the bottle.....initial taste is very nice , not unlike the 1907 brand white lable for those who know their Jack Daniels.....of which I did very well on fathers day....1ltr Old No7.....1ltr 1907 Brand....700ml No7 Legacy Edition 3 numbered release....and my son's No1 homebrew. Love my family.
