Spring breaks yet another record for Australia
Bureau of Meteorology declares spring 2019 the driest on record - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
Spring 2019 was officially the driest of the Bureau of Meteorology's 120 years of rainfall records.

"Probably the real standout with this spring is it's been dry almost everywhere."

This year has seen one of the strongest positive Indian Ocean Dipoles (IOD) on record.

It hasn't just been dry in Australia — there have also been record-low rainfalls in places like Singapore, according to Dr Trewin.

Large swathes of eastern Australia have been in drought for periods ranging from a year to seven years, with the record dry conditions prompting calls for further federal and state measures.

Suspect we could amend the title of thread to "Land of Drought and Fires" and add flood back in later

While the rest of Australia runs out of water, the Ord River scheme doesn't use it's full allocation. The dept. of Water and Environmental regulation wish to cut the allocation by 30%.

We had our 1st rain since May yesterday , rained for about 3/4hr moderately heavy. Guess I will need to get the mower ready for the growth, that is if the grass isn't completely dead. Have only tad to mow about 6 times in the last 12 months & that was only to mow the weeds.

How Israel is solving the global water crisis. While we sit and have what is laughingly called a debate on climate change, Israel has been quietly beavering away finding solutions to the water supply for what is really the driest area on the planet. Makes us and what tries to pass themselves off as our Government [ both sides] look pretty damn silly.

How much did we pay for the F35's ? Enough for more than a couple of reverse osmosis purification plants. As is stated in the article

    "
What does this mean for the world? It means that, suddenly, water scarcity has become something you can solve simply and decisively. All you need is a coastline and a lot of money, but nothing beyond the financial capacity of any national government. For the cost of a few fighter jets, you can build a world-class RO plant and pump the water into the system. Suddenly, water has transformed from a problem of natural resources to a problem of finding the political will and the budget. Today any country that doesn’t have enough water has only its leaders to blame. "

    Ever wondered about the fruit and veggies in our large supermarkets? those huge tasteless tomatoes and such pumped up with water and goodness knows what else ? From the article;

"Could my adoption of a “Mediterranean diet” have something to do with Israel’s water revolution? I’d grown up in the U.S. despising vegetables, most of them flavorless, big, waxy things that had been pumped with water to make them look good in the supermarket. In Israel I discovered something entirely different—smaller, flavorful produce. When I came back to the U.S. years later, the hardest part was figuring out how to eat without filling my diet with meat and high-preservative bread.Could we all live healthier lives, while making a serious dent in our use of fresh water resources, if a lot of those vegetables from the West Coast were grown smaller and sweeter, using saline water from the desert? "

The Murray Darling fiasco may be sorted by bringing some Israeli experts out, and standing aside the hopeless mob currently in charge, albeit they may be doing their best.

Earth has a couple of more chances to avoid the worst of climate change. This week is one. EDIT. The pressure is mounting "
This pressure has already begun: France has
    reportedly insisted
that a planned free trade deal between Australia and the European Union must include “highly ambitious” action on climate change."

Water wars are not a crazy idea any more. Already we have Australians fighting over water allocations, towns versus farmers versus environmentalists, politicians needing police protection to visit areas in drought and protesters invading parliament to abuse Ministers. This isn't idle speculation - it's actually happening now.
Who said climate change isn't a real threat?

I’d suggest people are the real threat.
