    GM to sell Holden

    https://www.carsales.com.au/editoria...-holden-116884

Wonder what impact this will have on the remaining Holden staff and operations.

    From the article,

"GM is not expected to relinquish its Australian R&D operations, which include about 350 designers and engineers at Holden's Port Melbourne design studio and the historic Lang Lang proving ground in Victoria, which would likely remain part of GM’s global product development team."

Sales and distribution personnel will go to the purchaser, presumably .

Stay tuned for John Cadogan to say “I told you so” on his YouTube channel in his own inimitable, entertaining style - or lack there-of, depending on your opinion of him!!

I know very little, except that Inchcape is the company involved, and interestingly enough, they do the same deal in Aussie for several well known brands, similar to what is being talked about relative to Holden, there could even be some pricing benefits from what I've read.

I suspected that after Holden stopped production that the brand would eventually be shut down.

I cant see that there is a whole lot of value in having "Holden" who just take other cars from all over the world and rebadge them. Why have a rebadging company, why wouldn't the manufacturers just sell them under their own brand. Holden is just a small domestic name that really doesnt matter a lot any more, especially because its not a home grown product.

Sad it is going down this path really.
    Cheers

Is there anything to sell other than the mythology of a failed Australian brand?

Agree, not much to sell if GM is keeping R&D and testing grounds.

I highly doubt there will be a relaunch of ‘HOLDEN’

Probably be Vauxhalls on our roads again as they are already manufactured as RHD . That way you will be able to keep driving ICE cars that the rest of the world don't want. GM USA are going all electric and they wont need to bother with the ****ant Australian market.
