But this weekend, as 45C blazing sunshine melts tourists on the Continent, wind and rain is dampening spirits at home.
The miserable UK weather is expected to continue through the rest of this month before thermometers goes stratospheric.
British Weather Services meteorologist Jim Dale says summer could come to a sizzling end.
He said: “There’s still about a 10-per cent chance that we could see a 40C by the end of the summer, the chance is small, but it is there.

These forecasts tend to be at least a few weeks in the future and my experience is they are just headline grabbing. One day they will be correct and they will be there saying I told you so but this will be based on repeating it for years until it actually happens
News here has just discovered El Niño so every up or down is due to this catastrophic event - to tune of ‘we are all doomed’. Even with El Niño you need to be careful as there are some very lose definitions of when it is occurring
