Funnily enough I experienced a bit of that this a.m.. SA State Election today & an odd thing happened at the polling booth during my attendance.
So possible would be miscreants couldn't rob your gaff while you were at the polling station while verbally giving your name, & confirming your address to the person sticking a line through you name on the roll, a Printed hard copy was initiated that would be scanned by said person without any conversation, & alerting said possible nearby miscreant's accomplices to the fact you weren't home, supposedly. They were able to mobile phone an accomplice who could quickly visit your nearby address & rob the joint. At least that was the theory. So this card idea seemed to be worth it's weight in Koala crap.
Today I fronted up wearing a mask as was the bloke behind the desk & four times he said summat, but I couldn't understand what, with a bit of background noise as well.
( as it turned out, so I was later told, he was asking whether I wanted my ID Card back & that too should have been a matter that didn't require a reply, just hand it back regardless & let me decide & dispose of it FFS.
He eventually started raising his voice so I could understand as people do ( Someone doesn't speak English, just yell louder.)

. Yep my name & address included.
When I tried to explain about the Barcode & other small details which had all my info on it to safely transfer to his laptop without telling everyone in creation my whereabouts which the Electoral Commission had instigated for this very secure reason, his Supervisor ( a seemingly Public Servant type) intervened & muttered summat through her mask which was also unintelligible. (Probably,"Don't upset our staff & make them cry?").
All he needed to do was use the info on the card that the SAEC had sent me for this very reason without a word being spoken.
Just "Thanks mate, have a nice day" would have sufficed.
As I said, that was the theory. Bloody elections,

& we will have another in a few weeks time it seems & I bet the same pair of Dorks is sat there.
They used to employ part time Teachers on an earner for the day but they in turn were less than useless which was part of the reason this Confidential Card thingo was introduced.
Am I being unreasonable, or do these people also have crap for brains? ME? I reckon they do but then I am a bit biased.
EDIT. indoors just informed me the bloke was an Indian (no not Hiawatha, the other sort, y' know the Ghandi & rice sort)
So no idea what he was verbally imparting AND from behind a mask ffs! Which S A E C moron thought that would be a sensible idea???
Have just applied for a Postal Vote in future for self & indoors. Job done.
