I guess it was to keep Fuzzy Wuzzies in order in the good olde days of International Flight or to keep drunken & unruly Pax out of trouble. Mind you a bullet through the a/c skin could cause all sorts of problems with electrical & Hydraulics etc.. Far better to carry a Baseball Bat.

Bit hard to just take a couple of big pins out (and more) and send a suss Comet motor off to rehab and install a replacement.

Maybe that's where LR got its concept of 'body off' maintenance of wear items and 'sealed for life'.
