Well, yes it is surprising. Florida is the leading state in doing everything possible to suppress data on covid infections and deaths, even to the extent of arresting a state statistician at gunpoint for daring to publish the figures (that was before they simply stopped collecting the data). So yes, it is surprising. As with most places, the number of covid deaths is almost certainly undercounted, but even more so in Florida. So if despite their best efforts to conceal it, the reported figure is still 50% higher than California, in reality it is probably a lot worse.

And also worth noting that covid vaccination levels among the elderly in Florida are among the highest in the country. They might be campaigning against vaccination and other anti-covid measures to support their favoured party, but they are not silly. (Same applies to the younger politicians, like DeSantis)

In the second wave of covid in Vic around 800 people died with or because of it.

In the Vic 'waiting rooms'..........the nursing homes........ around 663 people died in the private ones and 0 (zero, nada......) died in the state run ones.

    Is that surprising?

Doesn't it say something about a state's attitude to public health and the level of real care already factored in for the vulnerable?

    cheers, DL

    discovering Bigfoot is real

This it too cool for school

"To professional fact-checkers who sort fact from fable on social media, Hurricane Shark has been a longtime nemesis.
For more than a decade, fake, grainy images of a shark swimming in waters it doesn’t belong in — usually a highway and a subway platform — have reliably circulated during nearly every major storm.
It was never real. Yet it kept coming up, shared without skepticism yet again, and the checkers of facts were forced to defeat it again, over and over.
So you can imagine their hesitant surprise when a new video emerged on Wednesday appearing to show a shark in a backyard near Fort Myers, Fla., which had been battered by Hurricane Ian and was beginning to flood. Though this video didn’t have the telltale signs of fakery that previous versions did, skepticism was warranted as it racked up millions of views on Twitter.

Then evidence began emerging that it might actually be real. And on Thursday, The Associated Press confirmed its authenticity with firsthand interviews and an analysis of the original clip’s metadata, nailing down a story reporters thought they would never write. Storyful, a news agency, also confirmed it was genuine.
It was like discovering Bigfoot is real.

A pity the cameraperson was ****ed.

For a couple of shots it appeared as someone human was doing an Overarm Swim.

For a while, England was the world's most active buyer of ... Midazolam, a sedative medication widely used for intubated pts.... Mortality in Care Homes reflected this perfectly... Draw your own conclusions & join the dots. Couple that with the official NHS practice of sending (back) POS. pts, back into their Nursing home, - and you've lots of dots to choose from......

(No breakdown whether NHS - run homes, or Private.)

Anyone got a juicy Conspiracy Theory ?

    - Let me re-start the ball with this example of "COVID-19 research etc pre-dates 2019..."

D.O.D. Issued a Contract for ‘COVID-19 Research’ in Ukraine 3 Months Before COVID-19 Officially Existed - Humans Be Free

    - Disclaimer:- ActuallyI put that ref. up due to the humungous list on the page, RH side, columns of 'Catergories' - Like this one...

Forbidden History - Humans Be Free (or, what was Egypt's Sphinx doing under water ?)

    Enjoy !

That's just one of the local land sharks checking it out so he / she can get a jump on the others and convince the owners to sell.

He / she already has buyers lined up.

Around here they're just called land rats. Up early to read the death notices over brekky, then get on the phone.

I notice the 'Ernie Dingo invented Welcome to Country' conspiracy theory is getting a rerun after a section of the AFL grand final crowd gave Nazi salutes during the 'Welcome to Country' at the weekend.

The facts, from what I can work out, are that Ernie and a mate did write a version of Welcome to Country for a festival at Nimbin in 1976, but that doesn't mean the ceremony is a modern invention. There are also other versions of Welcome to Country.

They are all based on ceremonies indigenous tribes used to welcome people from other tribes to their territory, rather than going to war with them. These ceremonies go back many thousands of years.
The Dutch recorded the Yolgnu welcoming them to Western Australia in the 1700s.
There could be two reasons why there is no record of the First Fleet being welcomed to Botany Bay. Maybe the invaders didn't recognise the ceremony. Or maybe they weren't welcome. Why would they be?

So poor old Ernie is a victim of a conspiracy theory.
